PIXIES : DE LA GRANDE VISITE AU FEQ
Wow, qui l’aurait cru ? L’une des meilleures prises du FEQ : PIXIES, ce groupe culte de rock alternatif américain originaire de Boston, formé en 1986, a fait vibrer les planches de la scène George-V et ils ont livré tout un show.
C’est sous la pluie que le groupe a entamé son set, mais aucun problème, tout le monde était bien préparé ! Les PIXIES ont offert un imposant set de 26 chansons, puisant dans toutes les époques de leur carrière : Planet of Sound, Where Is My Mind?, Here Comes Your Man, Debaser, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Hey, Gouge Away, Wave of Mutilation, Motorway to Roswell, sans oublier la reprise de Head On des Jesus and Mary Chain et In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song).
Ils ont joué plusieurs pièces de leur excellent album Doolittle, qui fêtait ses 35 ans il n’y a pas si longtemps. C’était aussi une belle occasion de voir sur scène Emma Richardson, qui a remplacé Paz Lenchantin (2014-2024) à la basse et aux chœurs, un ajout qui apporte une nouvelle énergie au groupe.
PIXIES
En ouverture… que dire ? THE GLORIOUS SONS, un groupe de rock canadien originaire de Kingston, en Ontario, ont littéralement éclaté la place George-V. Le groupe a sorti son quatrième album studio Glory le 6 septembre 2023, appuyé par le single Mercy Mercy qu’ils ont joué ce soir.
Quel band ! Un excellent mélange de hard rock et de southern rock accrocheur. Beaucoup étaient venus pour eux et personne n’a été déçu.
THE GLORIOUS SONS
Juste avant, KURT VILE AND THE VIOLATORS signaient un retour au FEQ. Ils avaient ouvert pour Neil Young en 2018.

De mon côté, j’ai préféré aller découvrir Chance Peña sur les Plaines. Découvert par le grand public dans The Voice alors qu’il n’avait que 15 ans, il a su, depuis, se démarquer avec une folk sincère, tout en nuances et en émotions. Son univers, à la fois intime et captivant, lui a permis de collaborer avec des artistes établis, et plusieurs de ses chansons se sont retrouvées dans des films et des séries populaires. Une prestation toute en douceur.
CHANCE PENA
CORRIDOR, excellent groupe indie, et PRINCESSES ont précédé VILE avec brio.

PRINCESSES, c’est un power trio rock francophone, une fusion montréalaise à trois têtes, influencée par Rage Against the Machine, Marjo et le cran Shirley, comme eux le disent si bien, une énergie intense et assumée qui a bien chauffé la foule avant la suite.

PIXIES: A BIG VISIT AT FEQ
Wow, who would have thought? One of the best catches of this year’s FEQ: PIXIES, that legendary American alternative rock band from Boston, formed in 1986, rocked the George-V stage and delivered quite a show.
They kicked off their set in the rain, but no problem — everyone was well prepared! PIXIES played an impressive 26-song setlist, pulling from every era of their career: Planet of Sound, Where Is My Mind?, Here Comes Your Man, Debaser, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Hey, Gouge Away, Wave of Mutilation, Motorway to Roswell, plus their covers of Head On by The Jesus and Mary Chain and In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song).
They performed several tracks from their excellent album Doolittle, which celebrated its 35th anniversary not so long ago. It was also a great chance to see Emma Richardson on stage, who replaced Paz Lenchantin (2014–2024) on bass and backing vocals — a change that brings fresh energy to the band.
As for the opener… what can I say? THE GLORIOUS SONS, a Canadian rock band from Kingston, Ontario, absolutely blew up the George-V stage. The band released their fourth studio album Glory on September 6, 2023, supported by the single Mercy Mercy, which they played tonight.
What a band! An excellent blend of hard rock and catchy southern rock. Many came especially to see them and no one was disappointed.
Just before that, KURT VILE AND THE VIOLATORS made their return to FEQ. They had opened for Neil Young back in 2018.
As for me, I chose instead to check out Chance Peña on the Plaines. First discovered by the public on The Voice at just 15 years old, he has since carved out his own path with an honest, nuanced, and emotional folk sound. His intimate and captivating style has led him to collaborate with established artists, and many of his songs have been featured in popular movies and series. A gentle performance and truly a great surprise to end my night.
CORRIDOR, an excellent indie band, and PRINCESSES opened for VILE with style. PRINCESSES is a francophone rock power trio, a three-headed Montreal fusion influenced by Rage Against the Machine, Marjo, and the bold spirit of Shirley — a raw, confident energy that really warmed up the crowd for what came next.
