RUSH… PHÉNOMÉNAL
Il y a de ces soirées où tu sais, tu sens que quelque chose de gros va arriver. Pour moi, un bucket list de moins, un check sur la case : j’ai photographié Rush.
Ensuite, il y a le moment où tu te dis que, attention François, ce n’est plus le band d’antan, ils sont plus vieux que la dernière fois que tu les as vus!.. Mais câline… c’est quand même RUSH! Et j’avais vu Maiden la veille, alors tout est possible qu’ils vieillissent aussi bien, non?
La réponse… oui.
Si vous connaissez RUSH, leurs spectacles commencent toujours par une vidéo loufoque mettant en vedette nos joyeux musiciens dans des scénarios trop drôles. Aucune exception à la règle ici!
Ensuite, ça se gâte pour moi. Un écran géant devant moi, une boucane sur mon visage puisque je suis collé à la scène pour photographier ces icônes de la musique, et l’intro de Xanadu se fait entendre. J’aperçois Alex et Geddy… l’intro se promène dans mes oreilles, je ne sais plus où regarder, Alex ou Geddy? Les larmes aux yeux, je ne crois pas ce qui se passe, je commence par Alex, et voilà que le show commence!
Divisé en 2 parties d’environ 1 h 20 chacune. La première, un excellent pot-pourri de leur carrière, incluant The Bravado et un premier hommage vidéo très émouvant sur la carrière de Neil Peart. Quelle classe ont Geddy Lee et Alex Lifeson!
La deuxième partie fut très orientée Moving Pictures puisqu’ils l’ont joué dans son intégralité. Performance excellente d’Anika Nilles sur YYZ!
On termine le spectacle avec Working Man, où cette fois, on rend hommage au premier drummer de RUSH, John Rutsey. Encore là, quelle classe du band d’avoir fait ça!
Pour ma part, show de l’année à date, et possiblement mon meilleur show de Rush à vie…

RUSH… PHENOMENAL
There are nights when you just know, you can feel that something big is about to happen. For me, that was one less item on the bucket list, one more box checked: I photographed Rush.
Then comes the moment when you tell yourself, careful François, this isn’t the same band as before, they’re older than the last time you saw them!.. But damn… it’s still RUSH! And I had seen Maiden the night before, so anything was possible. Maybe they had aged just as well, right?
The answer… yes.
If you know RUSH, you know their shows always begin with a funny video featuring our cheerful musicians in hilarious scenarios. No exception to the rule here!
Then things got intense for me. A giant screen in front of me, smoke blowing in my face because I was right up against the stage photographing these music icons, and then the intro to Xanadu began. I caught sight of Alex and Geddy… the intro filled my ears, and I didn’t know where to look anymore, Alex or Geddy? With tears in my eyes, I could hardly believe what was happening. I started with Alex, and just like that, the show began!
The concert was divided into 2 parts of about 1 hour and 20 minutes each. The first featured an excellent mix from throughout their career, including The Bravado, along with a first very emotional video tribute to the career of Neil Peart. Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson showed so much class!
The second part was heavily focused on Moving Pictures, as they played the album in its entirety. Anika Nilles delivered an excellent performance on YYZ!
The show ended with Working Man, and this time they paid tribute to the first drummer of RUSH, John Rutsey. Once again, what a classy gesture from the band!
For me, it’s the show of the year so far, and possibly the best Rush show I’ve ever seen…
