Avenged Sevenfold et Good Charlotte – deux univers, un seul et même spectacle
Le 8 août dernier, mon équipe terminait sa couverture de Rock La Cauze et, de mon côté, j’ai quitté Victoriaville pour me rendre à Montréal afin d’assister à un spectacle, disons-le, haut en couleur. Le Centre Bell était plein à craquer pour nul autre qu’Avenged Sevenfold et Good Charlotte, accompagnés de Jayden Hammer.
Jayden Hammer est une jeune artiste de 25 ans qui s’est fait connaître sur les réseaux sociaux. Sur scène, elle était éclairée par un seul projecteur, accompagnée de sa guitare et de sa table de DJ, dans le but de faire bouger la foule en ce début de soirée. Personnellement, j’ai trouvé qu’elle était trop éloignée de l’avant-scène, ce qui limitait les possibilités de créer un véritable contact avec le public. Cela n’a cependant pas freiné l’énergie de l’artiste.
D’une part, elle a présenté des compositions originales qui, sincèrement, étaient encore un peu à travailler, mais qui démontraient un bon potentiel. D’autre part, accompagnée de sa table de DJ, elle a revisité quelques classiques rock et métal en leur apportant de légères modifications. Quand ton répertoire comprend Bring Me The Horizon, Linkin Park, Evanescence et bien d’autres, on ne peut que s’attendre à une réaction positive de la foule.
Je dois cependant avouer que le fait qu’elle nous ait laissés sur les morceaux les plus tristes de son numéro m’a un peu laissée sur ma faim. C’était sa première fois à Montréal et je crois qu’elle a bien aimé son expérience. Ce n’était pas ma première partie préférée, mais je crois sincèrement que cette artiste possède un beau potentiel et que la visibilité offerte par une tournée de cette envergure ne peut que lui être bénéfique.
Bon, parlons de Statica
Oui, oui, le groupe Avenged Sevenfold a décidé de faire sa propre première partie en présentant les mélodies de son nouvel EP.
Lorsque j’ai écouté cette œuvre avant le spectacle, ce n’était pas particulièrement à mon goût. Je comprenais toutefois que le groupe voulait expérimenter quelque chose de nouveau et je respecte ce genre de décision qui peut, malheureusement, en choquer plus d’un chez les fans.
Cependant, je m’attendais à une performance qui nous convaincrait de la « légitimité » de ce nouveau son. Eh bien… non.
La scène était habillée de deux grands écrans présentant des images colorées tirées de l’EP. Sur les côtés, d’autres écrans montraient des plans rapprochés en noir et blanc des musiciens en train de jouer de leur instrument, avec un effet rappelant la neige d’une télévision qui ne fonctionne plus.
Il n’y avait aucune action sur scène, aucun mouvement. J’ai été franchement déçue.
Good Charlotte, le bonheur sur scène
Quand Good Charlotte est arrivé sur scène, j’étais plus qu’heureuse de les voir. C’est le genre de groupe que tout le monde aime, même si tu n’es pas un superfan, même que parfois, on adore les chansons, mais on ne sait pas que c’est eux qui les jouent.
Ils ont apporté une légèreté et une joie de vivre contagieuses dans la salle dès les premières notes de The Anthem. Cela faisait presque dix ans qu’on ne les avait pas vus à Montréal et le groupe semblait aussi choyé de retrouver son public que nous l’étions de le revoir.
Les couleurs en arrière-scène étaient flamboyantes et criaient le bonheur.
D’ailleurs, Joel Madden a mentionné que cette tournée était tout simplement parfaite parce que « nous avons tous un ami qui est fan de Good Charlotte, mais nous avons aussi tous un ami qui est fan d’Avenged Sevenfold, et ces deux amis assistent à ce spectacle ensemble ».
Je ne me suis jamais considérée comme une fan de Good Charlotte avant le 8 août dernier. Ce groupe est chaleureux, prend l’entièreté de la salle en considération et fait de belles métaphores autour de sa composition pour créer des parallèles avec la vie. C’est un groupe qui donne énormément d’amour et, franchement, ça fait du bien!
Évidemment, ils en ont mis plein la vue avec du feu et des feux d’artifice sur scène. M. Shadows, d’Avenged Sevenfold, est venu chanter aux côtés de Madden pendant The River, juste le temps d’un refrain, avant de faire son apparition officielle sur scène avec son propre groupe.
GOOD CHARLOTTE
Avenged Sevenfold, un spectacle à couper le souffle
Avant même qu’Avenged Sevenfold monte sur scène, le groupe avait déjà réussi à piquer ma curiosité. En effet, durant l’attente, un code QR a été projeté à l’avant de la scène afin de permettre au public de participer à « l’introduction du spectacle » avec les lumières de nos téléphones.
J’étais, pour ainsi dire, sceptique. Mais lorsque l’introduction a commencé, j’étais tout simplement sans mots.
Nos lumières de téléphone clignotaient au rythme de la musique. Je CA-PO-TAIS! Le jeu de lumières était incroyable. J’avais l’impression que des centaines d’étoiles scintillaient les unes après les autres. C’était tout simplement magnifique.
Le groupe a commencé avec Nightmare et j’étais aux anges. Cette chanson n’avait pas ouvert l’un de leurs spectacles depuis plusieurs années.
Le batteur était installé sur une plateforme amovible qui pouvait monter et descendre. Il se retrouvait donc tantôt dans une cage, tantôt au-dessus des écrans géants, devenant ainsi une partie intégrante du décor. D’un autre côté, l’ensemble du décor bougeait au même rythme que la guitare pendant Nobody. L’effet était tout super bien agencé.
Finalement, pendant M.I.A., M. Shadows a fait chanter quelqu’un dans la foule. Mais c’est pendant Unholy Confessions qu’un jeune homme a fait sensation sur le Web en volant littéralement la vedette. Il est monté sur scène avec Shadows pour chanter avec lui. En fait, Zakary a interprété une bonne partie du morceau par lui-même : un véritable rêve devenu réalité pour ce jeune fan.
Bref, ce spectacle m’en a mis plein la vue. Moi qui n’avais pas particulièrement apprécié leur spectacle de 2023, j’ai été agréablement surprise. Cette fois-ci, Avenged Sevenfold m’a véritablement conquise.

Avenged Sevenfold and Good Charlotte – Two Worlds, One Show
On August 8, my team was wrapping up its coverage of Rock La Cauze, while I left Victoriaville and headed to Montreal to attend a show that was, to say the least, full of color. The Bell Centre was packed for none other than Avenged Sevenfold and Good Charlotte, joined by Jayden Hammer.
Jayden Hammer is a 25-year-old artist who made a name for herself on social media. On stage, she was illuminated by a single spotlight, accompanied by her guitar and DJ table, with the goal of getting the crowd moving early in the evening. Personally, I felt she was too far from the front of the stage, which limited the opportunities to create a genuine connection with the audience. However, that did not slow down the artist’s energy.
On the one hand, she performed original compositions that, quite frankly, still needed a little work, but showed good potential. On the other hand, accompanied by her DJ table, she revisited a few rock and metal classics, adding slight modifications to them. When your repertoire includes Bring Me The Horizon, Linkin Park, Evanescence, and many others, you can only expect a positive reaction from the crowd.
I must admit, however, that the fact that she left us with the saddest songs of her set left me wanting a little more. It was her first time in Montreal, and I believe she enjoyed the experience. It wasn’t my favorite opening act, but I sincerely believe this artist has great potential, and the exposure offered by a tour of this magnitude can only be beneficial to her.
Alright, Let’s Talk About Statica
Yes, yes, Avenged Sevenfold decided to be their own opening act by presenting the songs from their new EP.
When I listened to this release before the show, it wasn’t particularly to my taste. However, I understood that the band wanted to experiment with something new, and I respect that kind of decision, which can unfortunately upset more than a few fans.
Still, I was expecting a performance that would convince us of the “legitimacy” of this new sound. Well… no.
The stage featured two large screens displaying colorful images taken from the EP. On the sides, other screens showed black-and-white close-ups of the musicians playing their instruments, with an effect reminiscent of the static on a television that no longer works.
There was no action on stage, no movement. I was frankly disappointed.
Good Charlotte, Pure Happiness on Stage
When Good Charlotte came on stage, I was more than happy to see them. They’re the kind of band everyone likes, even if you’re not a superfan. Sometimes, we even love the songs without realizing they’re the ones playing them.
They brought an infectious sense of lightness and joy to the venue from the very first notes of The Anthem. It had been almost ten years since we had seen them in Montreal, and the band seemed just as grateful to reunite with its audience as we were to see them again.
The colors at the back of the stage were vibrant and screamed happiness.
In fact, Joel Madden mentioned that this tour was simply perfect because “we all have a friend who is a Good Charlotte fan, but we also all have a friend who is an Avenged Sevenfold fan, and those two friends are attending this show together.”
I had never considered myself a Good Charlotte fan before August 8. This band is warm, takes the entire venue into consideration, and creates beautiful metaphors around its songs to draw parallels with life. It’s a band that gives a tremendous amount of love and, frankly, it feels good!
Of course, they also put on quite a spectacle with fire and fireworks on stage. M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold came out to sing alongside Madden during The River, just for one chorus, before making his official appearance on stage with his own band.
Avenged Sevenfold, a Breathtaking Show
Before Avenged Sevenfold even took the stage, the band had already managed to pique my curiosity. During the wait, a QR code was projected at the front of the stage, allowing the audience to participate in the “introduction to the show” using the lights on our phones.
I was, so to speak, skeptical. But when the introduction began, I was simply speechless.
Our phone lights flashed to the rhythm of the music. I WAS LOSING IT! The lighting was incredible. I felt as though hundreds of stars were twinkling one after another. It was simply beautiful.
The band started with Nightmare, and I was thrilled. This song had not opened one of their shows in several years.
The drummer was set up on a movable platform that could rise and descend. At times, he found himself inside a cage, and at others above the giant screens, making him an integral part of the stage design. Meanwhile, the entire set moved in rhythm with the guitar during Nobody. The effect was all extremely well coordinated.
Finally, during M.I.A., M. Shadows had someone in the crowd sing. But it was during Unholy Confessions that a young man caused a sensation online by literally stealing the show. He went on stage with Shadows to sing with him. In fact, Zakary performed a large portion of the song by himself: a true dream come true for the young fan.
In short, this show blew me away. Having not particularly enjoyed their 2023 show, I was pleasantly surprised. This time around, Avenged Sevenfold truly won me over.
