Enfin, c’est le retour du festival Rock la Cauze au Parc Terre-des-Jeunes de Victoriaville, après un hiatus d’un an sur ce site. Prisé des amateurs de punk et de métal en raison des artistes souvent uniques et surprenants qui y sont présentés, Rock la Cauze offre un site bucolique où les familles abondent et où les punks cohabitent sans gêne avec les métalleux.
Des travaux ont été réalisés dans la dernière année, ce qui défigure substantiellement le site pour les amateurs de RLC. Les zones pour l’amateur « normal » ont beaucoup diminué, alors qu’à l’instar de bien d’autres festivals, malheureusement, les zones VIP prennent BEAUCOUP trop de place. Pour une soirée gratuite comme celle-ci, je comprends; pour les prochaines pour lesquelles les gens ont tous payé, ce sera frustrant. La tente centrale cache la vue du site refait, et je suis certain que c’est indépendant de la volonté des organisateurs. Les spectateurs en admission générale seront pour la plupart dans différentes buttes plus ou moins abruptes, ce qui n’est pas exactement confortable et agréable. La configuration du site, lorsqu’il sera plein, risque de créer d’importantes frustrations entre les classes sociales évidentes divisées un peu partout. Dommage… Assurément, l’organisation est déjà au fait de la problématique et y remédiera plus tôt que tard, on a confiance! D’ailleurs, les bénévoles et les organisateurs sont extraordinaires et nous offrent toujours un accueil royal; sachez que c’est très apprécié!
C’est la formation Mr. 82 qui a l’honneur d’ouvrir le festival cette année. La bande québécoise offre un rock industriel unique, à travers des textes souvent loufoques. Les membres du groupe sont déguisés, en… différentes choses (hum). C’est franchement différent de ce qu’on entend d’habitude. Imaginez les sonorités de Rammstein et de Lord of the Lost, combinées aux textes des Trois Accords. Ben voilà, on obtient Mr. 82. De l’électro, des voix robotiques, du rock/metal pesant, et des paroles absurdes. Bon, pour un festival familial à 18h00, on repassera. Une pièce dont les paroles sont « Fuck you » sous toutes ses formes, une autre, « J’aime les chattes », pendant laquelle le chanteur affirme dans des mouvements de bassin suggestifs qu’il veut attirer les chattes, sans oublier l’excellente « Sperme de métal », qui joue en boucle dans mon véhicule… quand mon garçon n’est pas là. Chaque pièce est excellente, rythmée. Aux Foufs, à l’Anti, pas de malaise, mais dans une soirée familiale, moins sûr!
Soyons clairs: c’est une très bonne performance de Mr. 82 que Victoriaville a vécue ce soir; ils auront gagné plusieurs fans et auront surtout réchauffé la foule pour la suite des choses!
Kamakazi suit ensuite. La formation de l’Île Bizard (allô EXterio) propose un punk rock radiophonique très sympathique, qui s’écoute bien et qui, contrairement à ses prédécesseurs, ne causera pas de malaise (en tout respect à Mr. 82, puisque c’était très bon!) chez nos plus jeunes. Durant 45 minutes, on nous offre un son convivial, festif, qui cadre parfaitement avec l’ambiance du moment. Moment mignon, le chanteur invite sa fille Violette sur la scène, on lui chante bonne fête, puis le groupe interprète Golden (Kpop Demon Hunters) en français avec Violette à sa tête. Cute!
Exterio suit ensuite. Si on pouvait les avoir à chaque année à RLC, personne ne s’en plaindrait, ni la foule, ni le groupe! Favorite du public, la bande originaire elle aussi de l’Île Bizard est toujours au sommet de sa forme et propose un spectacle impeccable aux festivaliers/amateurs peu importe où ils sont. Évidemment, le groupe offre tous ses succès, que ce soit Le Savant Fou, 138, Whippet (pendant laquelle les enfants des gars du groupe lancent des ballons dans la foule) et Le Seigneur des Agneaux, entre autres. Bien que l’énergie soit définitivement au rendez-vous, le setlist est un peu long, ce qui fait en sorte que les hits sont épars et qu’il y a quelques longueurs qui diminuent l’ardeur des amateurs. Ceux qui commencent toute la carrière du groupe, eux, sont servis par contre! L’énergie à l’avant est contagieuse et peu importe les pièces jouées, le parterre s’active, signe que la fête est définitivement commencée! C’est réellement en fin de parcours qu’Exterio brillera le plus, interprétant coup sur coup la ballade de Léandre Goodbye My Love, puis Bonhomme 7h00 et finalement Campanile. Finale incroyable qui met le point final à un spectacle en dents de scie au niveau du setlist, mais impeccable en ce qui concerne la prestation des musiciens!
La soirée se terminera ensuite avec un hommage aux Cowboys Fringants par la formation l’Expédition. Nous n’avons pas l’habitude de commenter les performances des groupes hommages, qu’elles soient bonnes ou moins bonnes. C’est injuste pour les artistes qui tentent du mieux qu’ils peuvent de rendre les pièces de leurs idoles que de critiquer leur travail. Si on s’en tient aux faits, donc, la bande proposera plus d’une heure du groupe du défunt Karl Tremblay, enchaînant succès par-dessus succès. On entendra notamment Bye Bye Lou, Heavy Metal, 8 secondes, Le Shack à Hector, Awatchikaen, La Marine Marchande, La Traversée, Plus rien, Toune d’automne, alouette! Belle façon de terminer une soirée toute québécoise!
Vendredi et samedi, Metaluniverse sera présent pour couvrir Rock la Cauze à nouveau, alors que plusieurs excellents groupes se produiront au Parc Terre-des-Jeunes! Ne manquez pas ça, il reste des billets!

Finally, Rock la Cauze is back at Parc Terre-des-Jeunes in Victoriaville after a one-year hiatus at this location. Popular among punk and metal fans because of the often unique and surprising artists featured there, Rock la Cauze offers a scenic site where families are everywhere and punks comfortably coexist with metalheads.
Work was carried out over the past year, which substantially changes the site for RLC regulars. The areas for the « regular » attendee have been greatly reduced, while, like at many other festivals unfortunately, the VIP zones take up WAY too much space. For a free evening like this one, I understand; for the next nights where everyone has paid, it will be frustrating. The central tent blocks the view of the redesigned site, and I’m sure that is beyond the organizers’ control. General admission spectators will mostly be standing on various more or less steep slopes, which is not exactly comfortable or pleasant. When the site is full, its configuration could create significant frustration between the obvious social classes divided throughout the grounds. Too bad… Surely, the organization is already aware of the issue and will address it sooner rather than later, we trust them! Besides, the volunteers and organizers are extraordinary and always give us a royal welcome; know that it is greatly appreciated!
The band Mr. 82 has the honor of opening the festival this year. The Quebec band offers a unique industrial rock sound through often wacky lyrics. The band members are dressed up as… different things (hum). It is definitely different from what we usually hear. Imagine the sounds of Rammstein and Lord of the Lost, combined with the lyrics of Trois Accords. Well, there you go, you get Mr. 82. Electro, robotic voices, heavy rock/metal, and absurd lyrics. Well, for a family festival at 6:00 p.m., we’ll come back to that. One song whose lyrics are « Fuck you » in every possible form, another, « J’aime les chattes, » during which the singer claims, with suggestive hip movements, that he wants to attract the pussies, without forgetting the excellent « Sperme de métal, » which plays on repeat in my vehicle… when my son isn’t there. Every song is excellent and rhythmic. At Foufs, at L’Anti, no awkwardness, but during a family night, not so sure!
Let’s be clear: Victoriaville witnessed a very good performance from Mr. 82 tonight; they will have gained several new fans and, above all, warmed up the crowd for what was to come!
Kamakazi was up next. The band from Île-Bizard (hello EXterio) offers very enjoyable radio-friendly punk rock that is easy to listen to and that, unlike its predecessors, won’t create any awkwardness (with all due respect to Mr. 82, because they were very good!) for the younger members of the crowd. For 45 minutes, we were treated to a friendly, festive sound that fit perfectly with the atmosphere of the moment. In a cute moment, the singer invited his daughter Violette onstage, everyone sang Happy Birthday to her, then the band performed Golden (Kpop Demon Hunters) in French with Violette leading the way. Cute!
Exterio was up next. If we could have them at RLC every year, no one would complain, neither the crowd nor the band! A crowd favorite, the band, also originally from Île-Bizard, is always at the top of its game and delivers a flawless performance for festivalgoers/fans no matter where they are. Obviously, the band played all of its hits, including Le Savant Fou, 138, Whippet (during which the band members’ children throw balls into the crowd) and Le Seigneur des Agneaux, among others. While the energy was definitely there, the setlist was a little long, which meant the hits were spread out and there were a few slower stretches that reduced the crowd’s enthusiasm. Those who know the band’s entire career, however, were well served! The energy at the front was contagious and no matter what songs were played, the floor came alive, a sign that the party had definitely started! It was really toward the end of the set that Exterio shone the brightest, performing Léandre’s ballad Goodbye My Love, followed by Bonhomme 7h00 and finally Campanile. An incredible finale that put the finishing touch on a performance that was somewhat uneven in terms of the setlist, but flawless when it came to the musicians’ performance!
The evening then ended with a tribute to Cowboys Fringants by the band L’Expédition. We are not used to commenting on tribute band performances, whether they are good or not as good. It is unfair to the artists who are doing their best to perform the songs of their idols to criticize their work. So, sticking to the facts, the band performed more than an hour of songs from the group of the late Karl Tremblay, delivering hit after hit. We heard, among others, Bye Bye Lou, Heavy Metal, 8 secondes, Le Shack à Hector, Awatchikaen, La Marine Marchande, La Traversée, Plus rien, Toune d’automne, and so on! A great way to end an all-Quebec evening!
On Friday and Saturday, Metaluniverse will once again be on site to cover Rock la Cauze, as several excellent bands will perform at Parc Terre-des-Jeunes! Don’t miss it, tickets are still available!
