Festival L’Underground de Waterloo – 17 juillet 2026
Le vendredi 17 juillet donnait le coup d’envoi à la toute dernière édition du Festival L’Underground de Waterloo. Après neuf ans à faire rayonner la scène rock, punk et métal québécoise, le festival amorçait un dernier week-end rempli d’émotions. Dès les premières heures de la soirée, les festivaliers étaient au rendez-vous pour célébrer une ultime fois cet événement devenu un incontournable de la région.
À 17 h, Killed by Sorrow a eu l’honneur d’ouvrir les festivités avec une prestation débordante d’énergie. Le chanteur Sébastien n’a pas hésité à descendre de la scène pour rejoindre les spectateurs en pleine chanson, créant un moment de proximité qui a été chaleureusement accueilli par la foule. Le nouveau batteur, Mathieu Lassonde, a également offert une excellente performance, démontrant toute sa précision et sa puissance derrière ses coups. Le groupe a même ajouté une touche d’humour à son passage avec un combat de nouilles de piscine durant l’interprétation d’« Anathema », un moment aussi inattendu que divertissant qui a fait réagir le public. Les combattants qui avaient réussi à garder leurs nouilles durant le set avaient droit à une surprise du band.
KILLED BY SORROW
À 18 h, Deadwood prenait le relais. Malgré un léger problème technique avec une guitare en tout début de prestation, le groupe a rapidement repris le contrôle de la situation sans laisser retomber l’énergie. Une fois ce contretemps réglé, Deadwood a livré une performance solide, démontrant tout son professionnalisme et maintenant une excellente connexion avec les spectateurs jusqu’à la fin de son passage.
DEADWOOD
La soirée s’est poursuivie avec Insurrection, qui est monté sur scène à 19 h pour offrir une prestation à la hauteur de sa réputation. Entre les riffs incisifs et les passages plus mélodiques, le groupe a gardé le public captivé du début à la fin. L’un des moments marquants est survenu lorsque le chanteur est venu s’asseoir sur la barrière de sécurité, poursuivant sa performance directement face aux spectateurs. Cette proximité a créé une belle interaction avec la foule, renforçant encore davantage l’intensité du spectacle.
INSURRECTION
Finalement, Alcoholica est venu conclure cette première soirée avec un hommage explosif à Metallica. En revisitant plusieurs des plus grands classiques du groupe légendaire, la formation a offert une finale rassembleuse où les festivaliers ont chanté chaque refrain à l’unisson. Une façon idéale de clore cette première soirée de la dernière édition d’un festival qui aura marqué la scène musicale québécoise.
ALCOHOLICA
Cette première journée a parfaitement illustré ce qui a fait le succès du Festival L’Underground de Waterloo au fil des ans : des performances authentiques, une proximité entre les artistes et le public, ainsi qu’une ambiance chaleureuse qui rassemble les passionnés de musique lourde. Une dernière édition qui s’annonce déjà mémorable.
Si cette première soirée a donné le ton de cette ultime édition du Festival L’Underground de Waterloo, la suite promet tout autant d’émotions. Les festivaliers auront encore droit à plusieurs performances marquantes avant que le rideau ne tombe définitivement sur cet événement. Festival L’Underground de Waterloo – July 17-18, 2026
Friday, July 17 marked the beginning of the very last edition of the Festival L’Underground de Waterloo. After nine years of showcasing Quebec’s rock, punk, and metal scene, the festival kicked off one final weekend filled with emotion. From the early hours of the evening, festivalgoers were there to celebrate this event, which had become a regional staple, one last time.
At 5 p.m., Killed by Sorrow had the honor of opening the festivities with a performance overflowing with energy. Singer Sébastien did not hesitate to step down from the stage and join the crowd in the middle of a song, creating a moment of closeness that was warmly welcomed by the audience. New drummer Mathieu Lassonde also delivered an excellent performance, demonstrating all of his precision and power behind the kit. The band even added a touch of humor to its set with a pool noodle fight during the performance of “Anathema,” a moment as unexpected as it was entertaining that drew a strong reaction from the crowd. The fighters who managed to keep their noodles throughout the set were treated to a surprise from the band.
At 6 p.m., Deadwood took over. Despite a minor technical issue with a guitar at the very beginning of the performance, the band quickly regained control of the situation without allowing the energy to drop. Once the setback was resolved, Deadwood delivered a solid performance, demonstrating its professionalism and maintaining an excellent connection with the audience until the end of its set.
The evening continued with Insurrection, which took the stage at 7 p.m. and delivered a performance worthy of its reputation. Between the sharp riffs and more melodic passages, the band kept the audience captivated from beginning to end. One of the standout moments came when the singer sat on the security barrier and continued performing directly in front of the crowd. This closeness created a strong interaction with the audience, further intensifying the show.
Finally, Alcoholica closed out the first evening with an explosive tribute to Metallica. By revisiting several of the legendary band’s greatest classics, the group delivered a unifying finale during which festivalgoers sang every chorus in unison. It was the ideal way to end the opening night of the final edition of a festival that left its mark on Quebec’s music scene.
This first day perfectly illustrated what made the Festival L’Underground de Waterloo so successful over the years: authentic performances, a close connection between the artists and the audience, and a warm atmosphere that brought fans of heavy music together. A final edition that was already shaping up to be memorable.
While this first evening set the tone for the final edition of the Festival L’Underground de Waterloo, the rest of the weekend promised just as much emotion.
