Retour sur la soirée du 24 mai 2026 alors que le Capitole accueillait Fit For A King avec Invent Animate, Ten56. et Acres en première partie.

Le premier groupe à jouer était Acres et ils ont débuté vers 19 h. Il s’agissait de la première présence à Québec du groupe originaire du Royaume-Uni, mais ce ne sera probablement pas la dernière. Si au début de la prestation je trouvais qu’il y avait peu de mouvements de la part des membres (quelques allers-retours de l’avant vers l’arrière pour les musiciens et gauche-droite pour le chanteur Ben Lumber) et un éclairage minimaliste, je me suis dit à la fin des 25 minutes (!!) qu’ils étaient sur scène que c’était suffisant pour offrir un bon spectacle. La foule était réactive, faisait du headbang régulièrement et nous avons eu quelques mosh pits. C’était donc une excellente mise en bouche et j’irai écouter la discographie d’Acres bientôt !

Par la suite, ce fut le tour du groupe français Ten56. de réchauffer la foule. Il semble que la France avait plus à offrir que Gojira et Alexandre Texier, car Ten56. a offert toute une performance ! La foule a monté son énergie d’un cran avec le mosh pit quasi permanent, le “girl pit”, le headbang et le wall of death lors du dernier morceau. Même si le band ne réinvente pas la roue, l’exécution est sans faille et était vraiment super à regarder. Comme pour Acres, il s’agissait d’une première visite à Québec pour ce jeune groupe fort de 3 albums, mais qui livre une meilleure prestation que plusieurs groupes avec plus d’expérience. Malheureusement, le set s’est conclu après 30 minutes pour que Invent Animate puisse prendre place.

TEN56

La dernière première partie, Invent Animate, est ensuite montée sur la scène du Capitole. Le quintette originaire du Texas n’était pas passé par Québec depuis leur spectacle au défunt Le Cercle en 2017. Le groupe roule depuis plusieurs années et ça paraît ! S’il y avait trop d’ensembles de lumières à mon avis, je dois avouer qu’ils accompagnaient à merveille les morceaux pendant les 45 minutes qu’a duré la prestation. En ce qui concerne la foule, malgré les crowd surfers, les mosh pits, le circle pit et le wall of death en fin de prestation, j’ai trouvé qu’il y avait moins d’énergie que pendant Ten56. Ce n’est pas la faute du chanteur Marcus Vik d’avoir essayé d’insuffler de sa propre énergie à la foule avec ses nombreux mouvements et tourniquets, mais c’était peut-être un groupe un peu trop soft pour jouer immédiatement avant Fit For A King.

INVENT ANIMATE

Enfin, c’est le tour de Fit For A King ! Même si le groupe passe régulièrement par Montréal et Québec, je n’avais pas eu la chance de les voir depuis plusieurs années. Dès le début de la prestation, je savais que nous aurions droit à un très bon spectacle. Déjà, la scène était moins chargée en éclairage, ce qui permet de mettre le groupe à l’avant-plan. Tout au long de la prestation, Ryan Kirby a démontré qu’il était en voix, alors que ses acolytes ont démontré qu’ils avaient du plaisir à performer. Du côté du public, il était très dynamique. Encore une fois, headbang, crowd surfers, mosh pits, circle pit et wall of death étaient au rendez-vous. Comme le groupe était passé par Montréal en novembre dernier, toujours dans le cadre de la promotion de l’album Lonely God (excellent album soit dit en passant), la setlist était la même à l’exception de 3 morceaux. Au final, nous avons eu droit à une bonne dose d’énergie qui, comme dans tous les spectacles de ce genre, était d’une trop courte durée (environ 1 h en incluant le rappel). Je recommande sans aucune hésitation !

Encore une fois, nous avons été témoins d’une excellente soirée au Capitole et j’ai déjà hâte de revoir Fit For A King en spectacle.

ENGLISH version

Looking back on the evening of May 24, 2026, when Fit For A King took over the Capitole with Invent Animate, Ten56., and Acres as opening acts.

The first band to hit the stage was Acres, starting around 7:00 PM. It was the first appearance in Quebec City for the UK-based group, but it will probably not be their last. At the beginning of the set, I felt there was very little movement from the members (a few back-and-forth movements from the musicians and left-to-right pacing from vocalist Ben Lumber) and the lighting was quite minimalistic. However, by the end of their 25-minute (!!) set, I realized that was more than enough to deliver a solid performance. The crowd was responsive, headbanging regularly, and we even got a few mosh pits. It was an excellent appetizer, and I will definitely be checking out Acres’ discography soon!

Next up was French outfit Ten56., whose job was to further warm up the crowd. It seems France had more to offer than Gojira and Alexandre Texier, because Ten56. delivered one hell of a performance! The audience raised its energy level another notch with an almost constant mosh pit, a « girl pit, » plenty of headbanging, and a wall of death during the final song. Even if the band is not reinventing the wheel, the execution was flawless and incredibly entertaining to watch. Just like Acres, this was a first visit to Quebec City for the relatively young band, despite already having three albums under its belt. They delivered a stronger performance than many more experienced groups. Unfortunately, their set came to an end after 30 minutes so that Invent Animate could take the stage.

The final opening act, Invent Animate, then took over the Capitole stage. The Texas quintet had not played Quebec City since their show at the now-defunct Le Cercle back in 2017. The band has been around for several years, and it shows! While I personally felt there were too many lighting effects, I have to admit they complemented the songs perfectly throughout the 45-minute performance. As for the crowd, despite the crowd surfers, mosh pits, circle pit, and wall of death toward the end of the set, I found the energy level lower than during Ten56.‘s performance. It certainly was not vocalist Marcus Vik’s fault, as he did everything he could to inject energy into the audience with his constant movement and spinning. However, perhaps the band’s sound was just a little too soft to play immediately before Fit For A King.

Finally, it was time for Fit For A King! Even though the band regularly plays Montreal and Quebec City, I had not had the chance to see them live in several years. From the very beginning of the set, I knew we were in for a great show. For starters, the stage was less cluttered with lighting, allowing the band itself to remain the focal point. Throughout the performance, Ryan Kirby proved he was in top vocal form, while the rest of the band clearly showed how much they enjoyed being on stage. The crowd was highly energetic as well. Once again, headbanging, crowd surfing, mosh pits, a circle pit, and a wall of death were all part of the experience. Since the band had played Montreal last November, still in support of their album Lonely God (an excellent album, by the way), the setlist was identical except for three songs. In the end, we were treated to a powerful dose of energy that, like all shows of this kind, felt far too short (about one hour including the encore). I recommend them without hesitation!

Once again, we witnessed an excellent night at the Capitole, and I am already looking forward to seeing Fit For A King live again.
