Le vendredi 20 février, une grande foule s’est rassemblée pour profiter du spectacle de BURNING THE OPPRESSOR, SACRED SILENCE et MAGGOTS, une soirée idéale pour tous les passionnés de métal. À mon arrivée au théâtre Beanfield, j’ai été instantanément charmée par les ornements d’inspiration vintage, rappelant la splendeur d’un théâtre majestueux aux nuances de rouge éclatantes. Dès les premiers instants, une atmosphère de convivialité s’était déjà établie parmi le public.
En discutant avec les spectateurs présents, il était évident que cette soirée serait appréciée par nous tous, les aficionados du genre, générant ainsi une atmosphère de confort et un enthousiasme palpable…
– BURNING THE OPPRESSOR –
C’est à ce moment précis que je me fonds dans la foule, ravie d’assister aux premiers instants de l’arrivée de BURNING THE OPPRESSOR. Les musiciens prennent place sur scène et, avant même de jouer la moindre note, il est manifeste qu’un lien puissant les unit à leur public. Cette relation avec leurs fans crée une atmosphère dynamique, fruit des liens soigneusement cultivés au fil des années.
La première pièce musicale débute et la qualité sonore du groupe se révèle immédiatement.
Le groupe est constitué du chanteur Kevin Bordello, du guitariste Jeff Roy, du batteur Sam Venne et du bassiste Vincent Benoit.
Kevin Bordello, le chanteur, offre une performance vocale exceptionnelle, soutenue par une énergie scénique à la fois puissante et ancrée, tandis que chaque membre du groupe fait preuve d’une musicalité irréprochable et d’une profondeur dans son art. Jeff Roy à la guitare et Vincent Benoit à la basse produisent des riffs explosifs, tandis que Sam Venne, le batteur, maintient une rythmique solide, le tout étant très apprécié par le public.
Leur musique originale, portée par un message puissant, transcende les limites de la scène et nous immerge dans leur univers, chanson après chanson. Le chanteur partage également un moment émouvant sous forme de témoignage pendant le spectacle, ce qui renforce notre connexion avec le groupe.
À travers leur message, qui met en lumière les réalités de la souffrance humaine et ses obstacles, ils nous incitent à percevoir le réalisme de cette situation, à demeurer résilients et à comprendre que nous ne sommes pas seuls.
C’était ma première expérience en assistant à l’une de leurs performances en direct, et j’ai été ravie par cette opportunité.

BURNING THE OPPRESSOR
– SACRED SILENCE –
Sacred Silence est un groupe hommage à System of a Down, fondé en 2002 par quatre passionnés de musique de la Beauce. Forts de plusieurs décennies d’expérience collective et de plus de vingt ans de collaboration, les membres du groupe affichent une synergie remarquable, créant une ambiance électrisante lors de leurs concerts. Leur talent pour captiver le public, associé à une énergie contagieuse, rehausse l’atmosphère des salles de spectacle, comme cela a été le cas au Théâtre Beanfield.
Sacred Silence est constitué de Maxime Poulin aux guitares et aux voix, Kevin Bélanger au chant, Charles Deschênes Bolduc à la basse et Nicolas Vachon à la batterie.
Ils débutent avec « CIGARO » et « B.Y.O.B », et tout comme moi, le public présent éprouve un bien-être immédiat. Surtout dans la section chantée « Everybody’s going to the party, have a real good time… » Je me surprends à danser sur place, portée par cette énergie festive tout en saisissant le message éveillé de prise de conscience sociale et de protestation.
Nous sommes tous sur la même longueur d’onde et conscients que nous allons vivre ensemble un moment unique et en union avec eux.
Le groupe reflète avec précision l’essence de SOAD tout en affichant des personnalités originales qui leur sont propres. Cette singularité se manifeste tant sur le plan musical que scénique, ce qui les rend véritablement phénoménaux.
« Le répertoire a subi une transformation notable au fil des années, d’abord grâce à la sortie de plusieurs albums, puis en s’enrichissant progressivement sur le plan créatif. Nous avons interprété plus de 60 chansons différentes de SOAD au cours des ans. Le public présent à nos concerts est généralement bien informé sur le groupe, et il nous transmet une énergie incroyable en chantant avec nous les morceaux les plus emblématiques. Nous aimons impliquer le public, surtout lorsque nous ressentons son enthousiasme. À chaque performance, nous avons l’impression que toute la salle chante en chœur avec nous, ce qui crée une atmosphère inégalée », nous explique Maxime Poulin.
Kevin Bélanger, le chanteur, réussit à capturer la vaste palette vocale de Serj Tankian avec une confiance impressionnante, tout en faisant preuve d’une sensibilité rare. Son interprétation des morceaux tels que « JET PILOT », « PRISON SONG », « AERIALS », « TOXICITY » et « SUGAR » touche profondément le cœur des spectateurs. Nicolas Vachon, à la batterie, apporte une énergie dynamique qui propulse le groupe tout en respectant la rythmique originale, enrichie de sa propre vitalité. Maxime Poulin incarne l’essence et l’intensité de Daron Malakian, se distinguant par son agilité à la guitare et sa présence scénique. Sa bienveillance envers le groupe, combinée à une performance musicale de haut niveau, contribue à l’impact global du spectacle. Charles Deschênes Bolduc maîtrise la basse avec une assurance et un dynamisme saillants, captivant le public par ses mouvements expressifs qui incitent à une immersion totale dans l’expérience musicale.
Ce spectacle est une véritable réussite sur tous les fronts, offrant une expérience à la fois libératrice, singulière et mémorable.

– MAGGOTS –
Pour conclure la soirée, MAGGOTS, un hommage à Slipknot. Un changement technique remarquable se manifeste sur scène, avec des techniciens accomplissant un travail exceptionnel. Le logo du groupe se révèle sur une vaste affiche en arrière-plan, signalant les futures positions des musiciens, comprenant notamment deux stations de consoles, deux kits de percussions et une batterie impressionnante. Ce changement est également perçu parmi le public, où certains arborent des vêtements aux couleurs du groupe, tandis que d’autres portent des masques de clown néon ou le célèbre « one-piece » rouge, témoignant de leur soutien et de leur engagement envers le spectacle à venir.
Le groupe est constitué de Sim Crow au chant, Yoan Marier-Proulx et Nicolas Martineau Gendron à la guitare, Justin Piedimonte à la batterie, Francis Bilodeau à la basse, Maurice Salvas aux samples, Gabriel Dupuis en tant que DJ, ainsi que Michael Labelle et Sébastien Tessier aux percussions.
Pour explorer en profondeur et en utilisant des métaphores analogiques, si vous le permettez, tout comme les films de La Purge qui donnent au peuple l’occasion de se libérer à un moment précis, MAGGOTS propose un espace libre pour exprimer sa colère intérieure.
De plus, les musiciens et le chanteur incarnent à la perfection l’univers de Slipknot; la musicalité est le socle de la dynamique qui règne dans toute la salle, et les morceaux sont interprétés avec une intensité qui leur rend un hommage authentique. Il convient de souligner avec une attention particulière le musicien qui incarne avec puissance le rôle du premier batteur de Slipknot, Joey Jordison, et qui fait perdurer son héritage musical.
En somme, une performance de MAGGOTS constitue une expérience à la fois puissante et libératrice, incarnant un véritable mouvement chaotique mais uni. Les fans, plongés dans le mosh pit, se défont des normes et des contraintes sociétales, tandis que les spectateurs sont enveloppés par une énergie surréaliste. La foule se transforme en une force collective, créant une atmosphère imprégnée d’émotions intenses, d’un esprit anarchiste et d’un heavy metal rapide et implacable.

On Friday, February 20, a large crowd gathered to enjoy performances by BURNING THE OPPRESSOR, SACRED SILENCE, and MAGGOTS, an ideal evening for all metal fans. Upon my arrival at the Beanfield Theatre, I was instantly charmed by the vintage inspired ornaments, recalling the splendor of a majestic theater bathed in striking shades of red. From the very first moments, a friendly and welcoming atmosphere had already settled among the audience.
While chatting with fellow concertgoers, it was clear that this night would be enjoyed by all of us, true aficionados of the genre, creating a sense of comfort and a palpable enthusiasm.
BURNING THE OPPRESSOR
It was at this precise moment that I blended into the crowd, delighted to witness the very first moments of BURNING THE OPPRESSOR taking the stage. The musicians stepped into position and, even before playing a single note, it was obvious that a powerful bond connected them to their audience. This relationship with their fans creates a dynamic atmosphere, the result of connections carefully nurtured over the years.
As the first song began, the band’s sound quality immediately stood out.
The lineup consists of vocalist Kevin Bordello, guitarist Jeff Roy, drummer Sam Venne, and bassist Vincent Benoit.
Kevin Bordello, the vocalist, delivers an exceptional vocal performance, supported by a stage presence that is both powerful and grounded, while each member of the band demonstrates impeccable musicianship and artistic depth. Jeff Roy on guitar and Vincent Benoit on bass unleash explosive riffs, while Sam Venne maintains a solid rhythmic foundation, all of which is greatly appreciated by the audience.
Their original music, carried by a powerful message, transcends the boundaries of the stage and immerses us in their universe, song after song. The vocalist also shares a touching personal testimony during the set, further strengthening our connection with the band.
Through their message, which highlights the realities of human suffering and its obstacles, they encourage us to recognize this reality, remain resilient, and understand that we are not alone.
This was my first experience attending one of their live performances, and I was truly delighted by the opportunity.
SACRED SILENCE
Sacred Silence is a System of a Down tribute band founded in 2002 by four music enthusiasts from the Beauce region. With several decades of combined experience and over twenty years of collaboration, the members display remarkable synergy, creating an electrifying atmosphere at their shows. Their ability to captivate the audience, paired with a contagious energy, elevates the vibe of the venues they play, as was clearly the case at the Beanfield Theatre.
Sacred Silence is composed of Maxime Poulin on guitars and vocals, Kevin Bélanger on lead vocals, Charles Deschênes Bolduc on bass, and Nicolas Vachon on drums.
They kick things off with “CIGARO” and “B.Y.O.B.”, and just like me, the audience immediately feels a sense of well being. Especially during the sung section “Everybody’s going to the party, have a real good time.” I find myself dancing in place, carried by this festive energy while also absorbing the socially conscious and protest driven message.
We are all on the same wavelength, aware that we are about to share a unique and unifying moment with them.
The band accurately reflects the essence of SOAD while showcasing original personalities of their own. This uniqueness is evident both musically and on stage, making them truly phenomenal.
“The repertoire has undergone a notable transformation over the years, first with the release of several albums, then by gradually expanding creatively. We’ve performed over 60 different SOAD songs throughout the years. The audience at our shows is usually very knowledgeable about the band and sends back incredible energy by singing along to the most iconic tracks. We love involving the crowd, especially when we feel their enthusiasm. At every performance, it feels like the entire room is singing in unison with us, creating an unmatched atmosphere,” explains Maxime Poulin.
Kevin Bélanger, the vocalist, successfully captures the wide vocal range of Serj Tankian with impressive confidence, while also displaying a rare sensitivity. His interpretation of songs such as “JET PILOT”, “PRISON SONG”, “AERIALS”, “TOXICITY”, and “SUGAR” deeply resonates with the audience. Nicolas Vachon, on drums, brings a dynamic energy that drives the band forward while respecting the original rhythms, infused with his own vitality. Maxime Poulin embodies the essence and intensity of Daron Malakian, standing out through his guitar agility and commanding stage presence. His goodwill toward the band, combined with a high level musical performance, contributes greatly to the overall impact of the show. Charles Deschênes Bolduc handles the bass with confidence and striking dynamism, captivating the crowd with expressive movements that encourage full immersion in the musical experience.
This show is a complete success on every level, offering an experience that is liberating, unique, and memorable.
MAGGOTS
To close out the night, MAGGOTS, a Slipknot tribute band, took the stage. A remarkable technical transformation unfolds, with technicians delivering outstanding work. The band’s logo appears on a large backdrop, indicating the future positions of the musicians, including two console stations, two percussion kits, and an impressive drum setup. This shift is also felt among the crowd, where some attendees wear band colors, while others don neon clown masks or the iconic red one piece suit, showing their support and commitment to the performance ahead.
The band lineup consists of Sim Crow on vocals, Yoan Marier-Proulx and Nicolas Martineau Gendron on guitars, Justin Piedimonte on drums, Francis Bilodeau on bass, Maurice Salvas on samples, Gabriel Dupuis as DJ, as well as Michael Labelle and Sébastien Tessier on percussion.
To explore this more deeply through analogical metaphors, if you will, much like the films The Purge that allow people a moment to release themselves, MAGGOTS offers a free space to express inner anger.
Furthermore, the musicians and vocalist perfectly embody the Slipknot universe. Musicality forms the foundation of the dynamic that fills the room, and the songs are performed with an intensity that pays authentic tribute. Special attention must be given to the musician who powerfully embodies the role of Slipknot’s original drummer, Joey Jordison, keeping his musical legacy alive.
In the end, a MAGGOTS performance is a powerful and liberating experience, representing a true movement that is chaotic yet unified. Fans immersed in the mosh pit shed societal norms and constraints, while spectators are enveloped by a surreal energy. The crowd becomes a collective force, creating an atmosphere filled with intense emotions, an anarchic spirit, and fast, relentless heavy metal.
