J’ai entendu ce band britannique pour la première fois lorsque je travaillais au HMV Laurier, à la fin des années 90. Et enfin, pour la première fois, ils font une tournée qui les amène à Montréal.
J’ai accroché sur ce band surtout parce qu’ils réussissent, de manière impeccable, à mélanger les styles. Tantôt prog à souhait, grâce à des pièces très longues comme Light par exemple, tantôt très rock et parfois électro et très atmosphérique.
Archive, selon moi, est l’un des groupes les plus sous-estimés! Bon, en Europe, ils sont beaucoup plus gros. C’était donc un honneur de pouvoir les voir et les photographier pour MU. Si vous ne connaissez pas, mélangez Pink Floyd période Echoes, Porcupine Tree et un peu de Radiohead, ça peut vous donner une idée. Ils sont tellement difficiles à catégoriser…
En show, wow, quelle prestation ils ont offerte!
Un festin pour les oreilles. Éclairage sobre, laissant toute la place à la musique. Un setlist couvrant leurs 30 ans de carrière, et une exécution faisant en sorte qu’en un rien de temps, c’était terminé!

J’espère sincèrement qu’ils reviendront dans un avenir rapproché!
En ouverture, le groupe instrumental italien Joycut. Assurément, ils ont conquis le cœur des fans présents.

ARCHIVE, finally on Quebec soil
I first heard this British band when I was working at HMV Laurier in the late ‘90s. And now, for the very first time, they’ve finally brought a tour to Montreal.
What really hooked me on this band is how flawlessly they blend musical styles. Sometimes highly prog-oriented, thanks to very long tracks like Light, other times very rock-driven, and at moments electronic and deeply atmospheric.
Archive, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated bands out there! Well, in Europe they are much bigger. So it was truly an honor to see them and photograph them for MU.
If you don’t know them, mix Pink Floyd from the Echoes era, Porcupine Tree, and a bit of Radiohead, and that might give you an idea. They are incredibly difficult to categorize…
Live, wow, what a performance they delivered!
A true feast for the ears. Minimal lighting, leaving all the space for the music itself. A setlist covering their 30-year career, performed with such precision that before we knew it, it was already over!
I sincerely hope they return in the near future!
Opening the night was the Italian instrumental group Joycut. Without a doubt, they won over the hearts of the fans in attendance.
So here are my photos from a night that will definitely be part of my top 10 of the year!!
