Nous y voilà : l’aube d’août rime avec Festivent de Lévis, festival qui ne manque jamais d’offrir une programmation diversifiée, attirant toujours une foule immense. C’est la formation Papa Roach qui foulera les planches du populaire événement en ce radieux vendredi soir, mais avant, réchauffement plus qu’intéressant alors que Grimskunk embarque sur scène avec Groovy Aardvark. Rien de moins!
En raison d’un problème à obtenir mon accréditation média, je manque l’essentiel de la prestation de Taxi Girls. Dommage!
C’est avec leur succès Gros Tas d’marde que commence la prestation de Grimskunk, le chanteur Franz Schuller étant particulièrement en forme. Son look grunge lui donne 20 ans de moins, le groupe qui, lui, célèbre sous peu ses 40 ans de carrière, imaginez! Groovy Aardvark et Grimskunk s’échangent tour à tour les pièces, présentant des échantillons de leur prolifique carrière respective. C’est tout de même spectaculaire d’assister à un événement aussi unique, et on sent que la foule est reconnaissante. On entendra Dérangeant, Boisson d’Avril, Le p’tit bonheur (pendant laquelle on filme au grand écran un dude qui porte un gilet du 70,000 Tons of Metal, on le salue!), alors que Grimskunk interprétera des pièces hyper diversifiées (avec lesquelles je suis moins familier) qui donnent lieu à d’impressionnants mosh pits. Excellente première partie qui met parfaitement la table pour la grande visite qui succédera!
Habituée des passages au Québec, la formation californienne Papa Roach est adorée par les amateurs d’ici et la foule massive présente pour l’événement est justement un indicateur clair de leur popularité. C’est avec Even if it Kills Me que le groupe débute sa prestation, et le public est rapidement conquis par l’énergie débordante des Américains. Jacoby Shaddix anime la soirée à merveille avec son habituel charisme; il prend des bains de foule (notamment durant To Be Loved, moment épique!), s’adresse aux amateurs à plusieurs reprises et ne cesse de dire à quel point il apprécie les fans québécois. Durant Getting Away with Murder, il fait monter un jeune homme, Elliot, qui interprète la pièce avec le groupe. Très sympa comme moment! La foule entonne à l’unisson les nombreux succès du groupe, notamment Dead Cells, Liar, Help et Infest. Après les excellentes Forever et Falling Apart, on a droit à l’infiniment touchante Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark), sous les milliers de lumières des cellulaires des amateurs. Petite frousse dans la foule alors qu’au milieu du spectacle, Shaddix interrompt la prestation pour que les secouristes aient accès à un blessé sur le site. Ça ne refroidit pas les ardeurs du public, qui en redemande. En fin de parcours, Papa Roach offre Between Angels and Insects, en plus d’un medley nu-metal composé entre autres de pièces de Limp Bizkit et de System of a Down. Évidemment, c’est avec son plus grand classique, Last Resort, que se termine un spectacle sans failles.
Prochain arrêt au Festivent de Lévis ce dimanche, alors nous assisterons aux prestations de Hipshot, les Vulgaires Machins, The Offspring et de la sensation de l’heure, Angine de Poitrine!

Here we are: the beginning of August rhymes with Festivent de Lévis, a festival that never fails to offer a diverse lineup and always draws a massive crowd. Papa Roach will be taking the stage at the popular event on this beautiful Friday night, but first, we have a more-than-interesting warm-up as Grimskunk hits the stage with Groovy Aardvark. Nothing less!
Due to an issue getting my media accreditation, I miss most of Taxi Girls’ performance. Too bad!
Grimskunk kicks off its set with the hit Gros Tas d’marde, with singer Franz Schuller looking particularly energetic. His grunge look makes him look 20 years younger, while the band itself will soon be celebrating 40 years of existence. Imagine that! Groovy Aardvark and Grimskunk take turns playing songs, offering samples from their respective prolific careers. It is still quite spectacular to witness such a unique event, and you can feel that the crowd is appreciative. We hear Dérangeant, Boisson d’Avril and Le p’tit bonheur (during which a dude wearing a 70,000 Tons of Metal shirt is shown on the big screen, we salute him!), while Grimskunk performs some highly diverse songs (with which I am less familiar) that lead to some impressive mosh pits. An excellent opening act that perfectly sets the stage for the big name coming next!
No stranger to performing in Quebec, California band Papa Roach is loved by local fans, and the massive crowd in attendance is a clear indication of their popularity. The band begins its set with Even if it Kills Me, and the audience is quickly won over by the Americans’ overflowing energy. Jacoby Shaddix hosts the evening perfectly with his usual charisma; he goes crowd surfing (notably during To Be Loved, an epic moment!), addresses the fans several times and repeatedly says how much he appreciates Quebec fans. During Getting Away with Murder, he brings a young man named Elliot on stage, who performs the song with the band. A very cool moment! The crowd sings along in unison to the band’s many hits, including Dead Cells, Liar, Help and Infest. After the excellent Forever and Falling Apart, we are treated to the incredibly moving Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark), under the thousands of cellphone lights held up by fans. There is a brief scare in the crowd when, halfway through the show, Shaddix stops the performance so first responders can reach an injured person on site. It does not cool down the crowd’s enthusiasm, as they keep asking for more. Near the end of the set, Papa Roach performs Between Angels and Insects, along with a nu-metal medley featuring songs by Limp Bizkit and System of a Down, among others. Of course, the show ends with their biggest classic, Last Resort, wrapping up a flawless performance.
Next stop at Festivent de Lévis this Sunday, where we will be attending performances by Hipshot, Vulgaires Machins, The Offspring and the sensation of the moment, Angine de Poitrine!
