Spectacle: Le 19 mai 2026 à la Place Bell de Laval

Alestorm = P.A.R.T.Y
Quand on a envie d’une bonne soirée qui nous redonnera le sourire, Alestorm devrait être le premier band auquel on pense, même un mardi soir. Plusieurs l’avaient compris le 19 mai dernier à la Place Bell. En effet, le band jetait l’ancre le temps d’une soirée festive avec nous, accompagné de Greyhawk et de Twilight Force.
Greyhawk débarquait de Seattle avec une ambiance très années 1980, un peu à la Iron Maiden. Rev Taylor, qui chante dans un registre assez bas, pousse des notes de tête soutenues franchement impressionnantes, et c’est dès le premier morceau que Jesse Berlin s’est déchaîné dans un solo de guitare du tonnerre. D’ailleurs, plusieurs autres ont suivi à travers leur performance : la guitare est extrêmement présente dans cette formation. À la fin du spectacle, un solo m’a franchement intriguée; j’avais l’impression que le musicien faisait jouer de la musique directement de l’espace… ou d’une pièce entièrement vide.

Ensuite, Twilight Force nous amenait dans une histoire, dans un monde digne des grandeurs nature, avec des costumes médiévaux et un narrateur qui nous transportait au fil du récit d’une voix grave. Un vieux sage, un peu comme Gandalf, nous guidait dans un univers complètement nouveau. D’ailleurs, il a demandé à la foule de se joindre à lui pour des rires démoniaques à pleins poumons. Ce band a été une véritable découverte pour moi. Chaque membre semblait sincèrement s’amuser, rendant la performance très naturelle et nous donnant envie de danser avec eux. Les chants, eux, étaient magnifiques, mélangeant des notes très hautes à une mélodie vocale plus basse et profonde. Les voix des deux chanteuses se fondaient parfaitement l’une dans l’autre. Aussi, les solos de guitare étaient très thématiques et féeriques : nous étions littéralement ailleurs.
Petit bémol cependant : je trouvais que le flyer derrière le groupe était beaucoup trop sombre. Il était donc difficile pour les spectateurs de voir clairement le nom de la formation. J’ai trouvé ça dommage, parce que le drapeau était magnifique et représentait parfaitement l’ambiance du groupe.
Moment fort : le dragon gonflable bleu lancé dans la foule par le band pendant la chanson Flight Of The Sapphire Dragon. Évidemment, l’objet représentait le cœur de cette superbe pièce.
TWILIGHT FORCE
Finalement, Alestorm a jeté l’ancre, sorti les canards gonflables et commencé à faire tripper l’entièreté de la Place Bell. Dès les toutes premières notes, la fête était lancée : la fumée était au rendez-vous, tout comme les cris déments de la foule. Ces musiciens-là dégagent une authenticité incroyable. Ils sont simplement là, à faire trembler le plancher sous leurs pieds pour que le party ne s’arrête jamais.
Au début du morceau Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship, un homme masqué en perroquet est venu chanter pendant que le groupe jouait de leurs instruments couchés par terre. Non seulement c’était hilarant, mais nous étions tous plongés dans une véritable euphorie musicale.
L’éclairage était aussi très thématique, chose que j’aime toujours voir dans un spectacle. D’ailleurs, durant la chanson Mexico, celui-ci arborait les couleurs du Mexique en alternance, suivant parfaitement la musique.
Mes moments forts : Magnetic North, tout simplement parce qu’ils l’ont jouée, c’est une chanson que j’adore et qui me donne envie de voguer sur les vagues, ainsi que Hangover, parce que la foule est devenue complètement hystérique lors de sa présentation.
Bref, je ne voulais plus partir, même si c’était un jour de semaine et que celle-ci ne faisait que commencer. Alestorm a officiellement changé les standards d’un vrai party!

Alestorm = P.A.R.T.Y
When you’re looking for a great night out that will instantly put a smile back on your face, Alestorm should probably be the first band that comes to mind, even on a Tuesday night. A lot of people clearly understood that on May 19 at Place Bell. The band dropped anchor for a festive evening alongside Greyhawk and Twilight Force.
Greyhawk came straight from Seattle with a very 1980s atmosphere, somewhat reminiscent of Iron Maiden. Rev Taylor, who sings in a fairly low register, delivers some seriously impressive sustained high notes, and right from the very first song, Jesse Berlin unleashed an incredible guitar solo. Several more followed throughout their set: guitar work is extremely prominent in this band. Near the end of the performance, one solo genuinely intrigued me; it felt like the musician was pulling sounds directly out of space… or from a completely empty room.
Then, Twilight Force brought us into a story-driven universe straight out of a live-action role-playing world, complete with medieval costumes and a narrator guiding us through the tale with a deep voice. An old wise man, somewhat like Gandalf, led us into a completely new realm. At one point, he even encouraged the crowd to join him in loud demonic laughter. This band was a real discovery for me. Every member looked like they were genuinely having fun, making the performance feel natural and making us want to dance along with them. The vocals were beautiful, blending soaring high notes with deeper and richer melodies. The two singers’ voices complemented each other perfectly. The guitar solos were also highly thematic and magical: we were literally transported somewhere else.
One small downside, however: I found the flyer behind the band much too dark. It made it difficult for the audience to clearly see the band’s name. I thought that was unfortunate because the banner itself was beautiful and perfectly represented the group’s atmosphere.
Highlight moment: the blue inflatable dragon thrown into the crowd during the song Flight Of The Sapphire Dragon. Obviously, the object perfectly represented the heart of that incredible track.
Finally, Alestorm dropped anchor, brought out the inflatable ducks and started making the entire Place Bell crowd lose their minds. From the very first notes, the party was on: smoke filled the stage and the crowd’s insane screams echoed throughout the venue. These musicians radiate authenticity. They’re simply there to shake the floor beneath their feet and make sure the party never stops.
At the beginning of Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship, a man wearing a parrot mask came out to sing while the band played their instruments lying on the ground. Not only was it hilarious, but we were all completely immersed in a state of musical euphoria.
The lighting was also very thematic, something I always enjoy seeing during a show. During the song Mexico, the lighting alternated between the colors of the Mexican flag, perfectly following the music.
My personal highlights: Magnetic North, simply because they played it. It’s a song I absolutely love and one that makes me want to sail across the waves, as well as Hangover, because the crowd became completely hysterical when it was performed.
Honestly, I didn’t want to leave, even though it was a weekday and the week had only just begun. Alestorm officially changed the standards of what a real party should be!
