Dimanche 21 juin 2026, un Hellfest à 44 degrés !!
Canicule annoncée, le festival a pris des mesures fortes avec des brumisateurs installés un peu partout, une vente de bières avec demi-dose…. Comment tenir toute une journée à plus de 40 degrés après 3 jours déjà bien éprouvants.
Un public peu nombreux dès l’ouverture et se cachant petit à petit sous les endroits arborés, c’est vers la Mainstage que commence cette grosse journée avec The Funeral Portrait. Même si le côté cheveux vert fluo est plutôt kitsch à mon goût, la musique est sympa à écouter. Belle présence scénique tout au long du concert avec des titres qui font mouche, ce groupe a lancé la journée d’une belle façon.
Pour se cacher un peu de la chaleur qui arrive, direction le groupe Tempt Fate à l’Altar. Ce groupe toulousain de death metal mélange les riffs puissants et rapides. Avec ce groupe, le petit déjeuner bien ingurgité a failli ressortir tellement nous avons été pilonnés sans compromission par ce gros son de death. À revoir dans d’autres salles absolument.
Parti juste à côté, à la Temple, pour un groupe français étonnant. Originaire de Montpellier, Silhouette propose son black metal à la perfection. Auteur de l’album Les Dires de l’âme, reconnu comme excellent par les critiques, mélangeant sons agressifs et moments d’une noirceur saisissante, il est strictement impossible de rester de marbre devant la proposition du groupe. Celui-ci est emmené de main de maître par Ondine, la chanteuse très charismatique. Félicitations pour cette prestation.
Reparti pour la Mainstage pour Not Scientists, que j’avais pu voir il y a quelque temps sur une plus petite scène. Ce groupe de punk français commence à se faire sérieusement un trou et à être reconnu. Si vous n’avez pas le moral, écoutez en urgence ce groupe tellement il vous embarque avec lui à vous détruire les vertèbres cervicales. Très sympa à écouter.
Sur la Warzone, il est toujours sympa de voir des Women on Stage avec Maid of Ace. Ce quatuor féminin a tout simplement tout déchiré sur scène. Ces 4 sœurs ont lâché en pleine face une musique débridée d’une puissance incroyable. Je leur annonce un futur sur la scène du hard rock hyper radieux et souhaite les revoir au plus vite.
Retour en Mainstage avec Revnoir. Groupe parisien dont le nom commence sérieusement à être reconnu, leur mélange musical construit en 2 EP emporte tout sur son passage. C’est sûrement un des sons et une des prestations les plus belles, autant musicalement que scéniquement, que j’ai pu voir en cette matinée. À revoir absolument rapidement.
À la Valley, de drôles de bonnets rouges envahissent le très large public. Interpellé par ces « nains », je ne pouvais pas ne pas m’arrêter et écouter ces joyeux lurons. Aux premières notes, l’humour belge de Gnome est bien présent, mais musicalement, c’est très bon. Des riffs entraînants, des rythmiques tonitruantes et des refrains qu’on retient sans difficulté. Un peu d’humour et de bonne musique n’ont vraiment pas fait de mal en cette journée difficile au Hellfest.
Direction l’Altar pour voir un groupe totalement dingue : Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition. Malgré un trop long silence, les Parisiens ont encore totalement réussi leur retour sur scène. Une prestation bien gore, puissante, voire brutale, mais tellement bonne pour nos oreilles. On va tous espérer les revoir très rapidement sur une scène du Hellfest.
Retour en Mainstage pour le groupe Resolve. Les Lyonnais ont un metal très propre, très travaillé, sans tralala. Juste une chose très appréciable et appréciée : la traduction intégrale des chansons en langue des signes (ici en photo avec Aurélie Nahon), très belle initiative. La route depuis leur premier album en 2021 s’annonce belle.
Malgré des photos interdites, j’ai voulu assister à, paraît-il, le concert d’un groupe montant dans le monde du hard rock. President n’a franchement pas convaincu mes écoutilles et faut-il être masqué et avoir une musique simpliste pour être l’étoile montante ? La question est sur la table…
Retour à la Temple pour écouter de la vraie musique, enfin je l’espère, avec le groupe Scour. Le groupe américain de black metal est musicalement très bon (ses références sont excellentes en même temps). Une claque visuelle et auditive d’un niveau très intéressant avec des riffs enchaînés pour prendre des baffes continuelles. À revoir très rapidement.
Retour aux Mainstages, la chaleur manquant trop sur le crâne, mais certains groupes me font l’appel du pied. Black Veil Brides s’offre à nous telle une offrande du ciel. Des prodiges absolus de la musique mélangeant les genres pop, metal…. Fort de son 7e album Vindicate, il est sans concession un des groupes qui a enchanté l’ensemble du public et des professionnels de la presse présents.
On continue sur les Mainstages avec Pennywise. Un set hyper maîtrisé par leurs tubes concoctés au fil des années avec brio. Jim Lindberg et ses musiciens ont, malgré les années qui passent, laissé une belle énergie et ce fut un réel plaisir, voire un honneur, de les voir en terre clissonnaise.
Que dire du groupe suivant. Cela fait 1 an que mon véhicule est biberonné à leur musique, mais mes yeux n’avaient jamais pu contempler ce groupe canadien. Entre peurs et envie, j’attendais Three Days Grace avec impatience. Mais pourquoi donc ont-ils attendu plus de 10 ans pour nous présenter cette prestation XXL emmenée par un duo de chanteurs, dont Adam Gontier et Matt Walst. Je voulais les voir, ils sont venus, j’ai vu, ils ont vaincu. Sans aucune contestation, meilleur concert de ce Hellfest 2026 !! Un 20/20 assuré avec mention excellent. Chère voiture, désolé, tu vas encore en bouffer quelque temps. Mais par pitié Three Days Grace, revenez vite !!
Et pour finir cette édition 2026, je voulais terminer par le groupe Rise Against. Un rock brutal avec une pointe contestataire vient nous envahir. Des textes engagés attaquant les pires pourritures de ce monde et leurs agissements. Une adrénaline à vivre absolument qui clôturera magnifiquement mon Hellfest 2026.

Conclusion de cette édition 2026, 19e du nom :
Une édition hyper bien organisée pour le public en prenant en considération la canicule, mais également beaucoup mieux organisée pour les photographes (même si le passage au milieu du public des Mainstages est encore très compliqué). Une set-list qui est revenue aux fondamentaux du metal pour notre plus grand bonheur. Accueil formidable, prestataires au top. Seule critique unanime de tous les photographes : il nous est quasi impossible de rendre un travail de qualité pour photographier en Mainstage 2, la scène étant beaucoup, beaucoup trop haute. À réfléchir pour l’année prochaine.
Pour l’année prochaine, ce sera une édition anniversaire, la 20e. Une édition qui se veut grandiose avec pas moins de 10 scènes au lieu de 6 actuellement, plus de 300 groupes, mais tout en restant sur un format de 4 jours et la même jauge de public.
En espérant être présent l’année prochaine pour cette magnifique édition, un grand merci à l’organisation, aux bénévoles et à l’ensemble des acteurs du festival pour ces 4 jours merveilleux. À l’année prochaine Ozzy pour ouvrir tes bras vers l’enfer et Lemmy, veille sur nous tous, le Hellfest est et restera le plus grand festival metal du monde.

Sunday, June 21, 2026, a Hellfest at 44 degrees!!
With a heatwave forecast, the festival took strong measures, with misting stations installed all over the site and beer sales with half doses…. How do you make it through an entire day at over 40 degrees after 3 already exhausting days?
There were few people when the gates opened, with the crowd gradually hiding in shaded areas, and it was at the Mainstage that this huge day began with The Funeral Portrait. Even though the neon green hair is a little kitsch for my taste, the music is nice to listen to. A great stage presence throughout the concert, with songs that hit the mark, this band kicked off the day in a great way.
To hide a little from the rising heat, we headed to the Altar for Tempt Fate. This Toulouse death metal band mixes powerful and fast riffs. With this band, the breakfast I had just eaten almost came back up because we were pounded relentlessly by this massive death metal sound. Absolutely a band to see again in other venues.
Then I headed right next door to the Temple for an astonishing French band. Originally from Montpellier, Silhouette delivers its black metal to perfection. The band released the album Les Dires de l’âme, recognized as excellent by critics, mixing aggressive sounds with moments of striking darkness. It is absolutely impossible to remain unmoved by what the band has to offer. The group is masterfully led by Ondine, its highly charismatic singer. Congratulations on this performance.
Back to the Mainstage for Not Scientists, whom I had seen some time ago on a smaller stage. This French punk band is seriously starting to make a name for itself and gain recognition. If you’re feeling down, listen to this band immediately, because they carry you along to the point of destroying your cervical vertebrae. Very enjoyable to listen to.
At the Warzone, it’s always nice to see Women on Stage with Maid of Ace. This all-female quartet simply tore the stage apart. These four sisters unleashed a wild and incredibly powerful sound right in our faces. I predict an extremely bright future for them on the hard rock scene and hope to see them again very soon.
Back to the Mainstage with Revnoir. A Parisian band whose name is seriously starting to gain recognition, their musical blend, built across two EPs, destroys everything in its path. This was undoubtedly one of the best sounds and one of the most beautiful performances, both musically and visually, that I had the chance to witness that morning. Absolutely a band to see again very soon.
At the Valley, strange red hats were spreading throughout the huge crowd. Intrigued by these « gnomes, » I simply couldn’t resist stopping to listen to these cheerful fellows. From the first notes, the Belgian humor of Gnome is clearly present, but musically, it’s very good. Catchy riffs, thunderous rhythms and choruses that are easy to remember. A little humor and good music certainly didn’t hurt on such a difficult day at Hellfest.
Off to the Altar to see a completely insane band: Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition. Despite a far too long silence, the Parisians once again completely succeeded in their return to the stage. A very gory, powerful, even brutal performance, but so good for our ears. We can all hope to see them back on a Hellfest stage very soon.
Back to the Mainstage for Resolve. The Lyon band delivers very clean, polished metal, without any unnecessary frills. One particularly appreciated and commendable aspect was the full translation of the songs into sign language (pictured here with Aurélie Nahon), a wonderful initiative. The road ahead since their first album in 2021 looks promising.
Despite photography being prohibited, I wanted to attend what is apparently the concert of a rising band in the hard rock world. President frankly failed to convince my ears, and do you really need to wear masks and play simplistic music to become a rising star? The question is on the table…
Back to the Temple to listen to some real music, or at least I hope so, with Scour. The American black metal band is musically very good (their credentials are excellent at the same time). A visual and auditory slap in the face of a very impressive level, with riffs chained together to deliver one beating after another. A band to see again very soon.
Back to the Mainstages, as the heat was hitting the head a little too hard, but some bands were calling my name. Black Veil Brides appeared before us like an offering from heaven. Absolute musical prodigies blending pop, metal and more…. With their seventh album Vindicate, they were unquestionably one of the bands that enchanted both the entire audience and the members of the press in attendance.
We continued at the Mainstages with Pennywise. A perfectly controlled set built around the hits they have brilliantly crafted over the years. Jim Lindberg and his musicians, despite the passing years, still delivered tremendous energy, and it was a real pleasure, even an honor, to see them on Clisson soil.
What can I say about the next band? For a year, my car has been fed a steady diet of their music, but my eyes had never had the chance to witness this Canadian band. Somewhere between fear and excitement, I was eagerly awaiting Three Days Grace. But why on earth did they wait more than 10 years to bring us this XXL performance, led by a duo of singers featuring Adam Gontier and Matt Walst? I wanted to see them, they came, I saw, they conquered. Without any doubt, the best concert of Hellfest 2026!! A guaranteed 20/20 with an excellent rating. Dear car, sorry, but you’re going to keep getting a steady dose of them for a while. But please, Three Days Grace, come back soon!!
And to finish this 2026 edition, I wanted to end with Rise Against. Brutal rock with a rebellious edge came crashing over us. Committed lyrics attacking the worst scum in this world and their actions. An adrenaline rush that absolutely must be experienced and that magnificently brought my Hellfest 2026 to a close.
Conclusion of this 2026 edition, the 19th of its name:
An extremely well-organized edition for the public, taking the heatwave into consideration, but also much better organized for photographers (even though moving through the Mainstage crowd is still very complicated). A lineup that returned to the fundamentals of metal, much to our delight. A fantastic welcome and top-notch service providers. The only unanimous criticism from all photographers: it is almost impossible for us to produce quality work when photographing Mainstage 2, as the stage is far, far too high. Something to think about for next year.
Next year will be an anniversary edition, the 20th. An edition that promises to be spectacular, with no fewer than 10 stages instead of the current 6, more than 300 bands, while still remaining a four-day format with the same audience capacity.
Hoping to be there next year for this magnificent edition, a huge thank you to the organizers, volunteers and everyone involved in the festival for these four wonderful days. See you next year, Ozzy, to open your arms toward hell, and Lemmy, watch over us all. Hellfest is and will remain the greatest metal festival in the world.
