The End Is Not The End – Atreyu ne verra jamais de fin
Atreyu est un groupe qui refuse de mourir et de se prendre pour acquis. Constamment en train de se réinventer, ce nouvel album est une preuve tangible de leur parcours créatif et musical. The End Is Not The End n’est pas qu’un titre ici: c’est une déclaration, une promesse. Une façon claire de dire que, peu importe les virages, les critiques ou les transformations, le groupe continue d’avancer, de tester et de se redéfinir.
À travers cet album considéré comme le plus Heavy de tous, on navigue entre la nostalgie et le renouveau. En effet, certains morceaux ramènent directement aux racines faisant penser à The Curse, une partie intégrante de leur identité, tandis que, d’autres morceaux osent sortir du cadre, parfois avec un franc succès, parfois laissant place au doute (pour ma part). Une chose est claire : Atreyu ne joue pas la carte de la sécurité, il ose.
Voici un parcours de ma première écoute, chanson par chanson, de cet album qui balance entre familiarité, expérimentation et moments marquants.
The End Is Not The End
Une introduction chargée d’émotion qui s’installe avec un riff mélodique rappelant un début de spectacle. Les paroles, presque murmurées en arrière-plan, ne font que répéter le titre, mais suffisent à imposer une ambiance. En 56 secondes, le ton est donné.
Dead
Un morceau qui a déjà fait ses preuves en live. Même devant un public qui ne la connaissait pas encore, un pit s’est formé presque instantanément lors de leur passage à Montréal. On retrouve ici les racines d’Atreyu : un scream libérateur soutenu par une mélodie accrocheuse. Une déclaration claire : Atreyu is not DEAD.
Break Me
Le scream d’ouverture me rejoint un peu moins, mais le refrain rattrape largement le tout. Le groupe explore ici une nouvelle dynamique vocale, offrant un duo intéressant entre les deux voix. La guitare, lourde et incisive, se permet quelques envolées plus aiguës qui viennent électriser l’ensemble. Un morceau taillé pour le live.
All For You
I’M OBSESSED. Vraiment catchy. Le thème frappe fort : cette relation dans laquelle on s’efface complètement pour l’autre. C’est universel, donc facile de s’y projeter. Le chant plus clair rend le tout encore plus accessible, parfait pour être hurlé à pleins poumons selon l’état d’âme.
Ghost In Me
Énergique dès les premières secondes. Impossible de rester immobile : soit tu te bats dans le pit, soit tu danses au refrain. Dans tous les cas, tu bouges. Headbang assuré.
Glass Eater
Une frustration brute qui frappe dès l’intro. Les couplets sont secs, presque tranchants, alors que les refrains s’ouvrent et respirent davantage. Le morceau parle de lâcher prise, de passer à autre chose, cette dualité émotionnelle est parfaitement transmise musicalement.
Wait My Love
Tout porte à croire qu’on s’en va vers une ballade… et pourtant, la chanson évolue autrement. Le rythme s’accélère légèrement sans jamais sombrer dans le lourd. Le refrain est magnifique, porté par des paroles remplies d’un amour sincère et lumineux. Étonnamment, ce n’est pas la tristesse qui domine, mais plutôt l’espoir.
Ego Death
Après la douceur précédente, celle-ci frappe comme un coup de masse. L’ambiance est lourde, presque oppressante, avec des sonorités rappelant un battement de cœur. Le scream a cappella surprend et fonctionne très bien. Trop courte, on en aurait pris plus.
Death Rattle
Difficile de ne pas imaginer une foule reprendre le refrain en chœur. Le rythme est entraînant, rassembleur. Elle ne m’a pas complètement happée, mais certains moments, notamment juste avant le refrain, m’ont arraché un “ok, ça c’est intéressant”.
Children Of Light
Un début presque théâtral, avec une guitare aux accents d’Halloween et un drum rapide. Puis la voix embarque… et là, surprise : une vibe presque sensuelle. Le refrain change complètement la donne, autant vocalement que musicalement. Je reste encore indécise, mais intriguée.
In The Dark
Une colère immédiate dès les premières secondes. Le refrain, lui, contraste totalement avec une clarté vocale presque spirituelle, comme une prière. Malheureusement, le rythme général me laisse un peu sur ma faim.
Afterglow
Une ballade acoustique assumée. C’est beau, c’est fragile, la voix prend toute la place. Les paroles plongent dans la nostalgie, dans le désir de revenir en arrière. J’ai presque versé une larme. On a envie de se rapprocher, de ralentir, de ressentir.
Break The Glass
Un début familier… puis BAM : un scream lourd qui surprend. La transition vers une voix clean puissante donne envie de se lever et de revendiquer quelque chose. Le drum est rapide, intense. Le pont au piano vient créer une pause douce avant de replonger dans une finale plus mystérieuse. Une chanson qui part dans tous les sens, et étonnamment, ça fonctionne. Même si je ne suis pas encore complètement habituée.
Bref, The End Is Not The End, tout juste sortie du four, est un album qui ne cherche pas à plaire à tout prix, et c’est probablement une de ses grandes forces. Atreyu explore différents sons à travers les diverses facettes de son identité, quitte à en déstabiliser quelques-uns. On y retrouve des morceaux puissants, d’autres plus vulnérables, et quelques essais qui diviseront certainement les critiques.
Ce n’est pas un album parfait, mais c’est un album vivant. C’est un album qui bouge.
Et en réalité, n’est-ce pas le message que le groupe tente de transmettre ? la fin n’est jamais vraiment la fin, juste une autre transformation.
Et celle-ci, est-elle réellement la plus heavy dans leur grand parcours musical?

Atreyu is a band that refuses to die or be taken for granted. Constantly reinventing themselves, this new album is tangible proof of their creative and musical journey. The End Is Not The End is not just a title here: it’s a statement, a promise. A clear way of saying that no matter the turns, the criticism, or the transformations, the band keeps moving forward, experimenting, and redefining itself.
Throughout what is considered their heaviest album yet, we move between nostalgia and renewal. Some tracks take us straight back to their roots, reminiscent of The Curse, a core part of their identity, while others dare to step outside the box, sometimes with great success, sometimes leaving room for doubt (for me, personally). One thing is clear: Atreyu doesn’t play it safe, they take risks.
Here’s a walkthrough of my first listen, track by track, of an album that balances familiarity, experimentation, and standout moments.
The End Is Not The End
An emotionally charged introduction that builds with a melodic riff reminiscent of a show opening. The lyrics, almost whispered in the background, simply repeat the title, yet they are enough to set the mood. In 56 seconds, the tone is set.
Dead
A track that has already proven itself live. Even in front of a crowd unfamiliar with it, a pit formed almost instantly during their Montreal show. Here, we find the roots of Atreyu: a liberating scream supported by a catchy melody. A clear statement: Atreyu is not DEAD.
Break Me
The opening scream resonates a bit less with me, but the chorus more than makes up for it. The band explores a new vocal dynamic here, offering an interesting interplay between the two voices. The guitar, heavy and sharp, allows itself some higher-pitched flourishes that electrify the whole. A track built for the stage.
All For You
I’M OBSESSED. Seriously catchy. The theme hits hard: that kind of relationship where you completely lose yourself for someone else. It’s universal, making it easy to relate to. The cleaner vocals make it even more accessible, perfect to scream along to depending on your mood.
Ghost In Me
Energetic from the first seconds. Impossible to stand still: either you’re throwing down in the pit or dancing during the chorus. Either way, you’re moving. Guaranteed headbanging.
Glass Eater
Raw frustration hits right from the intro. The verses are tight, almost cutting, while the choruses open up and breathe more. The song deals with letting go and moving on, and that emotional duality is perfectly conveyed musically.
Wait My Love
Everything suggests a ballad… and yet, the song evolves differently. The tempo picks up slightly without ever becoming heavy. The chorus is beautiful, carried by lyrics filled with sincere and luminous love. Surprisingly, it’s not sadness that dominates, but hope.
Ego Death
After the previous softness, this one hits like a hammer. The atmosphere is heavy, almost oppressive, with sounds resembling a heartbeat. The a cappella scream is surprising and works really well. Too short, we would have taken more.
Death Rattle
It’s hard not to imagine a crowd chanting the chorus together. The rhythm is catchy and unifying. It didn’t completely grab me, but certain moments, especially right before the chorus, made me think, “okay, that’s interesting.”
Children Of Light
A nearly theatrical opening, with Halloween-tinged guitar and fast drumming. Then the vocals come in… and surprise: an almost sensual vibe. The chorus completely shifts things, both vocally and musically. I’m still undecided, but intrigued.
In The Dark
Immediate anger from the very first seconds. The chorus, however, contrasts sharply with a vocal clarity that feels almost spiritual, like a prayer. Unfortunately, the overall rhythm leaves me wanting a bit more.
Afterglow
A fully embraced acoustic ballad. It’s beautiful, fragile, and the voice takes center stage. The lyrics dive into nostalgia, into the desire to go back. I almost shed a tear. It makes you want to get closer, slow down, and feel.
Break The Glass
A familiar beginning… then BAM: a heavy scream that surprises. The transition into a powerful clean voice makes you want to stand up and claim something. The drumming is fast and intense. The piano bridge creates a soft pause before diving back into a more mysterious ending. A song that goes in every direction, and surprisingly, it works. Even if I’m not fully used to it yet.
In short, The End Is Not The End, fresh out of the oven, is an album that doesn’t try to please at all costs, and that’s probably one of its greatest strengths. Atreyu explores different sounds through the many facets of its identity, even if it means unsettling some listeners. You’ll find powerful tracks, more vulnerable ones, and a few experiments that will certainly divide opinions.
It’s not a perfect album, but it’s a living one. It moves.
And in reality, isn’t that the message the band is trying to convey? The end is never really the end, just another transformation.
And this one, is it truly their heaviest in their entire musical journey?
