THE VOLUMES SERIES – The Plot In You
The Volumes Series, c’est un tout. Le fruit d’un dur labeur. The Plot In You nous a fait patienter longtemps avec différents EP et singles. C’est une réelle histoire, un véritable questionnement sur la vie de tous les jours.
Divide : Une chanson qui définit bien le groupe, selon moi. Tantôt, on se défoule, tantôt, on se laisse porter par une mélodie qui fait mal à l’âme.
Left Behind : La pièce parfaite pour crier les paroles du début à la fin. Elle donne envie d’ouvrir son cœur en hurlant à pleins poumons. De plus, le morceau a juste le bon rythme pour sautiller d’une jambe à l’autre.
Forgotten : Est-ce qu’on commence une révolution? Cette composition est là pour nous gonfler à bloc. Et si on allait se défouler dans le pit sur ce morceau rough à souhait?!
Closure : La chanson qui m’a fait découvrir le groupe. Ce morceau rempli d’émotion nous offre un exutoire pour communiquer les nôtres. Il est tout en simplicité, presque comme une ballade, sans toutefois enlever la rage que transmettent si bien les musiciens grâce à une musicalité lourde qui s’adoucit au pont de la chanson.
Don’t Look Away propose un gros contraste avec le titre précédent en mettant de l’avant des cris gutturaux. C’est une chanson qui décoiffe, qui donne envie de se battre, de sortir toute la rage. Les back vocals plus smooth nous rappellent cette petite voix qui nous parle dans notre tête lorsqu’on rumine une émotion sans arrêt.
All That I Can Give : Un cri de désespoir dans un océan. J’ai l’impression qu’on surfe une vague qui ne cesse de nous faire tomber. Qu’on supplie, qu’on s’agenouille, mais que le soleil s’en va quand même. C’est un morceau lourd d’émotion. Les cris semblent sincères; ils donnent envie de tout saccager afin de pouvoir pleurer en paix par la suite, complètement épuisé.
Been Here Before : J’ai l’impression de retourner dans les années 2000, version hardcore. Vous savez, ces bands pop rock qui composaient les bandes sonores de tous les films à l’époque? J’ai l’impression que le beat en arrière-plan possède cette vibe, mêlée aux cris droits et aigus du chanteur. Ça crée un contraste très intéressant. C’est le genre de chanson qu’on écoute en courant ou en faisant du skate. La pause à 3 min 20 m’énerve un peu, cependant. Je trouve qu’elle casse le morceau.
Pretend : Un début feutré et mystérieux qui s’élève vers une réalité tangible à chaque refrain. Comme si prétendre était le visage découvert de tous, une réalité incontrôlable. Peut-être est-ce le cas? Plus la chanson avance, moins celle-ci demeure dans les sonorités basses; on gagne en clarté, en hauteur.
Spare Me : Un morceau qui part en force, puis qui amène des refrains plus doux, presque voilés, créant un contraste de noir et de blanc. C’est le genre de chanson qui fait en sorte qu’on ne sait pas si on veut simplement vibrer ou courir en rond dans un pit. C’est vers la fin que le morceau prend une tournure plus brutale, même s’il se termine sur des notes de piano, tout en douceur.
Silence : Ce morceau commence sur une guitare acoustique tranquille. On peut facilement imaginer les lumières d’une salle qui s’allument en écoutant cette introduction. Évidemment, on retourne ensuite vers un rythme qui invite au headbang et au scream en chœur avec le chanteur. Le mélange entre la voix claire, le scream, les graves et les aigus crée une véritable tempête de sensations auditives.
You Get One : Une chanson qui commence avec un bass drum rapide, nous donnant immédiatement envie de bouger. On ajoute ici une touche de technologie aux screams; on joue vraiment avec les sons. Cette chanson donne envie de sauter à pieds joints sur place. Le breakdown de ce morceau fait mal! C’est comme un wrap-up de tout ce qu’on a entendu jusqu’à présent.
Carved : Un début en douceur, comme une marche sous la pluie. Cette chanson est moins sensationnelle et me rejoint un peu moins. L’émotion me semble moins claire, moins brute. J’ai l’impression d’être pris dans une boucle qui tourne jusqu’à la toute fin.
Bref, je crois qu’il s’agit de leur meilleur album jusqu’à présent : le plus senti, le plus émotif, mais surtout le plus vrai… et celui qui les mènera le plus loin.

The Volumes Series is a whole. The result of a lot of hard work. The Plot In You made us wait a long time with different EPs and singles. It is a real story, a genuine reflection on everyday life.
Divide: A song that defines the band well, in my opinion. At times, you let everything out; at others, you let yourself be carried by a melody that hurts the soul.
Left Behind: The perfect track to scream the lyrics from beginning to end. It makes you want to open your heart while shouting at the top of your lungs. On top of that, the song has just the right rhythm to bounce from one leg to the other.
Forgotten: Are we starting a revolution? This composition is here to pump us up. What if we went to blow off some steam in the pit to this rough-as-hell track?!
Closure: The song that made me discover the band. This emotionally charged track gives us an outlet to express our own. It is simple, almost like a ballad, without taking away the rage that the musicians convey so well through a heavy musicality that softens during the bridge.
Don’t Look Away offers a strong contrast with the previous track by putting guttural screams forward. It is a song that blows your hair back, that makes you want to fight, to let all the rage out. The smoother back vocals remind us of that little voice talking inside our heads when we keep dwelling on an emotion over and over.
All That I Can Give: A cry of despair in an ocean. I feel like we are surfing a wave that never stops knocking us down. That we beg, that we fall to our knees, but the sun still goes away. It is a song heavy with emotion. The screams feel sincere; they make you want to destroy everything so you can cry in peace afterward, completely exhausted.
Been Here Before: I feel like I am going back to the 2000s, hardcore version. You know those pop rock bands that made up the soundtracks of every movie back then? I feel like the beat in the background has that vibe, mixed with the singer’s sharp, high-pitched screams. It creates a very interesting contrast. It is the kind of song you listen to while running or skateboarding. The pause at 3:20 annoys me a little, however. I feel like it breaks the song.
Pretend: A muted and mysterious beginning that rises toward a tangible reality with every chorus. As if pretending were everyone’s uncovered face, an uncontrollable reality. Maybe that is the case? The further the song goes, the less it remains in the lower tones; it gains clarity, height.
Spare Me: A song that starts strong, then brings in softer, almost veiled choruses, creating a black-and-white contrast. It is the kind of song that makes you unsure whether you simply want to vibe or run in circles in a pit. Toward the end, the track takes a more brutal turn, even though it ends on soft piano notes.
Silence: This track begins with a calm acoustic guitar. You can easily imagine the lights in a venue turning on while listening to this introduction. Obviously, we then return to a rhythm that invites headbanging and screaming along with the singer. The mix between clean vocals, screaming, lows, and highs creates a true storm of auditory sensations.
You Get One: A song that begins with a fast bass drum, immediately making us want to move. Here, a touch of technology is added to the screams; they really play with the sounds. This song makes you want to jump up and down with both feet. The breakdown in this track hits hard! It is like a wrap-up of everything we have heard so far.
Carved: A gentle beginning, like a walk in the rain. This song is less striking and connects with me a little less. The emotion feels less clear, less raw. I feel like I am caught in a loop that keeps turning until the very end.

In short, I believe this is their best album so far: the most heartfelt, the most emotional, but above all the most genuine… and the one that will take them the furthest.
