Ce jeudi, direction La Source en compagnie de mes fils pour voir si la cabane va résister à l’assaut sonore international des quatre groupes prévus au programme, à savoir Resolve (France), Mugshot (Californie), Gideon (Alabama) et Alpha Wolf (Australie).
On aurait pu penser qu’il y aurait moins de gens présents à cause des Séries, mais non, la salle était juste assez remplie pour que tout le monde (moi y compris) puisse en profiter – en fait, se défouler – sans nécessairement se ramasser un coude ou un pied dans la face. Parce que oui c’est un autre show de metalcore, un genre dans lequel les groupes foisonnent ces temps-ci.
C’est Resolve qui donne le coup d’envoi. Je dois dire que le contraste entre leur look et l’accent français du chanteur est surprenant. Bien coiffés, en pantalons noirs tout propres, l’un avec des lunettes fumées, ils sont l’incarnation des Men in Black cinématographiques. Avec la même détermination que ces personnages, le groupe nous convainc de sa légitimité avec ses compos solides et sa prestation dynamique.
RESOLVE
Mugshot les suit assez vite, sans perdre ce feeling de contestation qui me semble être un fil conducteur dans ce genre. Les fans étaient échauffés, mais là ils se laissent complètement aller. Le chanteur, et même tout le groupe, motive les troupes sans difficulté. Tous les mouvements de « danse » propres au hard/metalcore sont en démonstration. C’est le fun à voir, mais je m’en tiens loin hahaha.
MUGSHOT
Giddy up Gideon! C’est ce qui me vient à l’esprit de façon spontanée quand je vois apparaître ce groupe de cowboys barbus. C’est un groupe que j’ai déjà photographié, mais je ne m’en rappelle aucunement. Pourtant, leur look est particulier et leur version de metalcore l’est tout autant – il y a encore ici un contraste surprenant et intéressant. Le public est plus dense et aussi plus actif, je dois me faufiler entre les « danseurs » et regarder du coin de l’œil pour éviter qu’ils me rentrent dedans. Mais ça fait partie de la game! Je sais très bien à quoi m’attendre dans ce genre de show, c’est pas mon premier rodéo!

GIDEON
Enfin arrive la tête d’affiche de la soirée, Alpha Wolf. Ils sont là pour achever ceux qui tiennent encore debout. Ils donnent tout ce qu’ils ont en son, en paroles, en énergie et en sentiment. Comme c’est le quatrième groupe à jouer, je m’attendais à ce que les gens se calment un peu, mais pas du tout. On est au pic de l’action, dans la chaleur et la sueur, et les « sauteurs » (stagedivers) se sont lancés dès le début, sans attendre de se le faire dire. Les musiciens occupent toute la scène et sont très présents, par opposition à dans leur bulle; la synergie avec les fans est palpable. Je dois dire que c’est quelque chose que j’apprécie beaucoup en tant qu’amatrice de musique, mais aussi en tant que photographe, peu importe le genre musical. La prestation se termine en beauté lorsque leur photographe officielle vient chanter quelques lignes.
Ce fut une autre soirée de laisser-aller bien senti, et partagé avec mes fils. Des moments précieux.
ALPHA WOLF

It’s Thursday, I’m heading to La Source with my sons to see if the venue can withstand the international musical onslaught from the four bands on the lineup: Resolve (France), Mugshot (California), Gideon (Alabama), and Alpha Wolf (Australia).
You might have thought there’d be fewer people there because of the playoffs, but no—the venue was just packed enough for everyone (myself included) to enjoy it—actually, to let loose—without being hit by an elbow or a foot in the face. Because yes, it’s another metalcore show, a genre that’s teeming with bands these days.
Resolve is kicking things off. I have to say that the contrast between their look and the singer’s French accent is surprising. With their hair perfectly styled, wearing crisp black pants—one of them sporting sunglasses—they’re the embodiment of the Men in Black. With the same determination as the characters from the movie, the band proves its worth with solid songs and a dynamic performance.
Mugshot then follows pretty quickly, without losing that rebellious vibe that seems to be a common thread in this genre. The fans were already hyped up, but now they’re really letting loose. The singer—and the whole band, for that matter—has no trouble getting the crowd going. All the signature “dance” moves of the hard/metalcore scene are on full display. It’s fun to watch, but I’m staying well clear of it!
Giddy up, Gideon! That’s my first tought when I see this band of bearded cowboys appear. A band I’ve photographed before, but I don’t remember them at all. Yet their look is unique, and their take on metalcore is just as distinctive—another surprising and interesting contrast here. The crowd is denser and more active; I have to weave my way through the “dancers” and keep an eye out to avoid getting knocked over. But that’s all part of the game! I know exactly what to expect at this kind of show—it’s not my first rodeo! (I’d like to take this opportunity to put out a call to anyone interested in covering shows like this—we need a reviewer capable of providing a more in-depth and “knowledgeable” account than I do. Finally, headliner Alpha Wolf takes the stage. They’re here to finish off anyone still standing. They give it their all—in music, lyrics, energy, and emotion. Since they’re the fourth band to play, I expected the crowd to calm down a bit, but not at all. We’re at the peak of the action, in the heat and sweat, and the stagedivers have been jumping in from the very start, without waiting to be told. The musicians fill the entire stage and are very present, as opposed to being in their own little bubble; the synergy with the fans is tangible. I have to say that this is something I really appreciate as a music lover, but also as a photographer, regardless of the musical genre. The performance ends gracefully with their official photographer coming up to sing a few lines.
It was another evening of heartfelt letting go, shared with my sons. Precious moments.
