Porté par une identité musicale mêlant heavy, death, thrash et metalcore, le groupe s’impose déjà comme une formation ambitieuse et déterminée à se tailler une place sur la scène internationale. Notre rédacteur Marc Desgagné de MetalUniverse.net a eu l’occasion de s’entretenir avec eux afin d’en savoir plus sur la genèse de l’album, leurs inspirations et leurs aspirations pour l’avenir.

MU : Votre premier album « Illusion Of Time » est disponible depuis le 5 septembre 2025. Comment vivez-vous ce moment important dans la carrière du groupe?
Lethernal Utopia :
C’est l’aboutissement de deux ans et demi de travail acharné. On a voulu soigner chaque détail : la composition, la production, l’identité visuelle, jusqu’à la pochette. Aujourd’hui, on a enfin la chance de partager notre univers avec le monde. Pour nous, c’est à la fois une fierté et un vrai point de départ. On veut prouver qu’on est un groupe sérieux, ambitieux et prêt à aller loin!
MU : Depuis quand travailliez-vous sur ces chansons, quelles ont été vos principales inspirations et avez-vous déjà de nouvelles compositions en préparation?
Lethernal Utopia :
Live To Die a été l’un de nos premiers morceaux, alors que Crossroads Of Time est le tout dernier.
Adrien : Je l’ai composé dans la nuit du 31 décembre 2024 au 1er janvier 2025, ce qui explique son titre. Entre ces deux bornes, on a façonné toutes les autres pièces!
Nos influences sont très variées : Adrien est marqué par le métal nordique (Children Of Bodom, Amon Amarth), Sacha aime les sonorités thrash métal (Megadeth) et death métal symphonique des débuts, et Alex est passionné par le metalcore moderne (While She Sleeps, Bleed From Within). Jay aussi, notamment fan de Landmvrks, mais comme il vient d’arriver il n’y a pas sa patte sur ce premier album. De ce mélange est née une sorte de heavy/death modernisé qui nous correspond parfaitement. Et oui, on travaille déjà sur de nouveaux titres : Illusion Of Time n’est qu’une introduction à ce qu’on veut développer.
MU : Pouvez-vous nous parler de l’origine du nom Lethernal Utopia et ce qu’il représente pour vous en tant que groupe?
Lethernal Utopia :
Adrien : Au départ, je voulais simplement appeler le groupe Utopia. Mais sur Spotify, impossible : il y en avait déjà trop. Alors j’ai créé Lethernal, contraction de Lethal et Eternal. L’idée, c’est qu’une utopie est une quête infinie, qu’on poursuit sans jamais vraiment l’atteindre… au point d’y laisser sa vie.
MU : Votre premier album s’intitule « Illusion Of Time ». Pourquoi avoir choisi ce titre et comment reflète-t-il les thèmes explorés sur le disque?
Lethernal Utopia :
C’est Robin, notre ancien bassiste, qui a proposé Illusion Of Time. On a trouvé que ça collait parfaitement. C’est aussi le titre de la première piste, une intro qui installe les éléments qu’on retrouve tout au long de l’album. Les thématiques abordent la vanité, la spiritualité, le rapport à la finitude.
MU : Quels sont les principaux sujets abordés dans vos paroles, et qu’est-ce qui vous inspire à écrire sur ces thématiques?
Lethernal Utopia :
Nos textes tournent autour de la nature autodestructrice de l’être humain. C’est un sujet inépuisable, qui nous touche et qu’on traduit chacun à notre manière.
MU : Vous combinez plusieurs influences – thrash, death metal, metalcore, heavy metal/rock – comment parvenez-vous à équilibrer toutes ces sonorités dans votre musique?
Lethernal Utopia :
On n’essaie pas de calculer ou de forcer quoi que ce soit. Chaque membre apporte ses goûts, et la fusion se fait naturellement. On joue ce qu’on aime et ça donne ce mélange d’influences.

MU : Sur une chanson comme « One Last Breath », on entend une forte touche heavy metal/rock. Comment avez-vous décidé d’intégrer cette approche dans votre album?
Lethernal Utopia :
C’est vrai que ce morceau détonne un peu. On a choisi de l’intégrer car il apporte une couleur plus festive, presque euphorique, qui tranche avec les morceaux plus sombres. Il garde une énergie metal, mais avec un côté léger, un peu décalé, qui apporte un souffle différent à l’album.
MU : Le mélange de growls puissants et de vocaux clairs donne une grande richesse à vos morceaux. Comment travaillez-vous cet équilibre vocal en studio et sur scène?
Lethernal Utopia :
On expérimente beaucoup. On essaie, on ajuste, on recommence, jusqu’à trouver le bon équilibre entre growls et voix claires. L’arrivée de Lise Arbiol, mezzo-soprano, a été un moment clé. On l’a rencontrée directement en studio, et même si on avait préparé des maquettes précises, beaucoup d’idées et d’harmonies sont nées sur le moment. C’est ce qui fait la richesse de l’album : chaque intervenant, y compris Plume notre producteur, a laissé sa marque.
MU : Comment le public a-t-il accueilli vos premiers singles, notamment « Live To Die », et avez-vous senti une différence depuis la sortie de l’album complet?
Lethernal Utopia :
Live To Die a été un cas particulier. À l’origine, il faisait partie de notre premier EP, mais on n’était pas satisfaits de la production. On l’a retravaillé avec Plume, un peu comme un test, et on l’a ressorti. Contre toute attente, l’algorithme Spotify s’en est emparé et ça a décollé. Ça nous a montré qu’on tenait quelque chose.
Pour l’album complet, on commence à sentir un bel engouement. On aura le vrai recul d’ici quelques mois, mais on est déjà très contents de la réception.
MU : Faire sa place comme nouveau groupe dans la scène musicale actuelle n’est pas facile. Quels sont, selon vous, les principaux défis que vous rencontrez en ce moment?
Lethernal Utopia :
Ce n’est pas facile de se faire une place, mais ça ne l’a jamais été. La différence, c’est qu’aujourd’hui, on a accès à plus d’outils pour produire de la musique de qualité à moindre coût. On les utilise à fond pour proposer du contenu solide et progresser en permanence. Là où c’est compliqué, c’est sur le booking : décrocher des festivals ou des concerts hors de ceux qu’on organise nous-mêmes reste un vrai défi. Si un booker lit ça… sache qu’on est prêts!
MU : Vous êtes originaires de Toulouse, France. Est-ce que votre environnement local ou la scène musicale de votre région a influencé votre identité musicale?
Lethernal Utopia :
Notre identité musicale ne vient pas de Toulouse, mais on a découvert après coup une scène locale incroyablement riche. Des groupes comme Varkodya ou Leahtan montrent un niveau impressionnant pour des projets « amateurs ». Ça nous inspire et ça nous pousse à donner le meilleur de nous-mêmes.
MU : L’album est sorti sous M&O Music Label et soutenu par M&O Office Agency. Comment cette collaboration vous aide-t-elle à développer votre carrière et à élargir votre public?
Lethernal Utopia :
On est reconnaissants envers Alexandre de M&O pour sa confiance. Ça nous apporte un vrai support en presse et une crédibilité supplémentaire. C’est un tremplin pour faire entendre notre musique au-delà de notre cercle initial, et on espère que ça nous ouvrira les portes de beaux événements.
MU : Vous préparez des concerts et des tournées en France, en Espagne et ailleurs. Qu’est-ce qui vous enthousiasme le plus à l’idée de défendre Illusion Of Time sur scène?
Lethernal Utopia :
Jouer Illusion Of Time sur scène, c’est ce qu’on attendait depuis le début. On adore ce qu’on fait, on a une cohésion forte, et on a vraiment envie de partager cette énergie avec le public, en France, en Espagne et ailleurs.
MU : Avec un son aussi diversifié et un premier album solide, où voyez-vous l’évolution de Lethernal Utopia dans les prochaines années?
Lethernal Utopia :
À court terme, on veut sortir plus de contenu visuel (clips, playthroughs) et avancer sur le prochain album, qui sera comme les vestiges d’une première aube. Ensuite, on aimerait accéder à des festivals et partager la scène avec des groupes qu’on admire comme In Flames, Bleed From Within ou Born Of Osiris. Et pourquoi pas, un jour, avoir notre propre tournée.
MU : Pour conclure, si vous aviez à décrire « Illusion Of Time » en une seule phrase à quelqu’un qui ne vous connaît pas encore, laquelle serait-elle?
Lethernal Utopia :
Un ascenseur émotionnel qui traverse rage, joie, amour et mort, un voyage entre les genres et le début d’une ère!
MU : Si vous avez un dernier message pour nos lecteurs, quel serait-il?
Lethernal Utopia :

Interview with Lethernal Utopia

With their debut album Illusion Of Time, released on September 5, 2025, under M&O Music, Toulouse-based Lethernal Utopia have reached a crucial milestone in their journey. Driven by a musical identity blending heavy, death, thrash, and metalcore, the band is already establishing itself as ambitious and determined to carve out a place on the international scene. Our writer Marc Desgagné from MetalUniverse.net had the chance to talk with them about the album’s creation, their inspirations, and their vision for the future.
MU: Your debut album “Illusion Of Time” has been available since September 5, 2025. How do you feel about this important moment in the band’s career?
Lethernal Utopia:
It’s the culmination of two and a half years of hard work. We wanted to take care of every detail: the composition, the production, the visual identity, right down to the artwork. Today, we finally have the chance to share our universe with the world. For us, it’s both a source of pride and a true starting point. We want to prove that we are a serious, ambitious band, ready to go far!
MU: How long have you been working on these songs, what were your main inspirations, and do you already have new material in the works?
Lethernal Utopia:
Live To Die was one of our first tracks, while Crossroads Of Time was the very last.
Adrien: I wrote it during the night of December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025, which explains its title. Between those two milestones, we shaped all the other songs!
Our influences are very diverse: Adrien is strongly influenced by Nordic metal (Children Of Bodom, Amon Amarth), Sacha enjoys thrash metal sounds (Megadeth) and early symphonic death metal, and Alex is passionate about modern metalcore (While She Sleeps, Bleed From Within). Jay too, especially as a fan of Landmvrks, but since he just joined, his mark isn’t on this first album yet. From this mix came a sort of modernized heavy/death sound that fits us perfectly. And yes, we’re already working on new material: Illusion Of Time is only an introduction to what we want to develop.
MU: Can you tell us about the origin of the name Lethernal Utopia and what it represents for you as a band?
Lethernal Utopia:
Adrien: At first, I simply wanted to call the band Utopia. But on Spotify, it was impossible—there were already too many. So I came up with Lethernal, a contraction of Lethal and Eternal. The idea is that a utopia is an endless quest, something you pursue without ever really reaching it… to the point of giving your life for it.
MU: Your debut album is titled “Illusion Of Time.” Why did you choose this title, and how does it reflect the themes explored on the record?
Lethernal Utopia:
It was Robin, our former bassist, who suggested Illusion Of Time. We thought it fit perfectly. It’s also the title of the first track, an intro that sets the stage for the elements you’ll find throughout the album. The themes touch on vanity, spirituality, and the relationship with finitude.
MU: What are the main lyrical themes you explore, and what inspires you to write about them?
Lethernal Utopia:
Our lyrics revolve around the self-destructive nature of human beings. It’s an inexhaustible subject, one that touches us deeply and that each of us interprets in our own way.
MU: You blend several influences—thrash, death metal, metalcore, heavy metal/rock—how do you manage to balance all these sounds in your music?
Lethernal Utopia:
We don’t try to calculate or force anything. Each member brings their own tastes, and the fusion happens naturally. We play what we love, and it creates this mix of influences.
MU: On a track like “One Last Breath,” we hear a strong heavy metal/rock vibe. How did you decide to integrate this approach into your album?
Lethernal Utopia:
It’s true that this song stands out a bit. We chose to include it because it brings a more festive, almost euphoric color that contrasts with the darker tracks. It keeps a metal energy but with a lighter, slightly quirky side that adds a different breath to the album.
MU: The mix of powerful growls and clean vocals adds great richness to your songs. How do you work on this vocal balance in the studio and on stage?
Lethernal Utopia:
We experiment a lot. We try, adjust, and start over until we find the right balance between growls and clean vocals. The arrival of mezzo-soprano Lise Arbiol was a key moment. We met her directly in the studio, and even though we had prepared precise demos, many ideas and harmonies were born on the spot. That’s what makes the album rich: every contributor, including Plume our producer, left their mark.
MU: How did the audience respond to your first singles, especially “Live To Die,” and have you noticed a difference since the release of the full album?
Lethernal Utopia:
Live To Die was a special case. Originally, it was part of our first EP, but we weren’t satisfied with the production. We reworked it with Plume, sort of as a test, and re-released it. Unexpectedly, Spotify’s algorithm picked it up and it took off. That showed us we were onto something.
As for the full album, we’re starting to feel a great buzz. We’ll have a clearer perspective in a few months, but we’re already very happy with the reception.
MU: Making a name for yourself as a new band in today’s music scene isn’t easy. What do you see as the main challenges you’re facing right now?
Lethernal Utopia:
It’s never easy to make a name for yourself, but it never has been. The difference today is that we have access to more tools to produce quality music at lower costs. We use them to the fullest to offer solid content and keep progressing. Where it’s tough is booking: getting into festivals or shows beyond the ones we organize ourselves is still a real challenge. If a booker is reading this… know that we’re ready!
MU: You are from Toulouse, France. Has your local environment or music scene influenced your identity as a band?
Lethernal Utopia:
Our musical identity doesn’t come from Toulouse, but we later discovered an incredibly rich local scene. Bands like Varkodya or Leahtan show an impressive level for so-called “amateur” projects. That inspires us and pushes us to give our very best.
MU: The album was released under M&O Music and supported by M&O Office Agency. How does this collaboration help you develop your career and reach a wider audience?
Lethernal Utopia:
We’re grateful to Alexandre from M&O for his trust. It gives us real support in the press and added credibility. It’s a springboard to get our music heard beyond our initial circle, and we hope it will open the doors to bigger opportunities.
MU: You’re preparing shows and tours in France, Spain, and beyond. What excites you the most about bringing Illusion Of Time to the stage?
Lethernal Utopia:
Playing Illusion Of Time live is what we’ve been waiting for from the beginning. We love what we do, we have strong cohesion, and we really want to share that energy with the audience—in France, Spain, and beyond.
MU: With such a diverse sound and a strong debut album, where do you see Lethernal Utopia evolving in the coming years?
Lethernal Utopia:
In the short term, we want to release more visual content (videos, playthroughs) and move forward on the next album, which will be like the remnants of a first dawn. After that, we’d love to play festivals and share the stage with bands we admire like In Flames, Bleed From Within, or Born Of Osiris. And why not one day have our own tour.
MU: To conclude, if you had to describe “Illusion Of Time” in one sentence to someone who doesn’t know you yet, what would it be?
Lethernal Utopia:
An emotional rollercoaster that goes through rage, joy, love, and death—a journey across genres and the beginning of a new era!
