Vendredi, je suis allée à La Source de la Martinière pour une autre soirée toute douce afin de m’aider à sortir de la morosité de l’hiver. Bon, j’exagère un peu en parlant de douceur. En effet, The Scepter, Ültra Raptör et Warsenal avaient la tâche de nous sortir de notre torpeur, et ces trois groupes ont rempli la mission, bien fait, vite fait.
Venant d’Ottawa et ouvrant le bal, ou les hostilités selon le point de vue, les membres de The Scepter étaient habillés dans le thème, avec bottes de cowboy, pantalons ajustés en cuir et lunettes fumées. Ici, on penche davantage vers un power metal bien lourd, mais sans claviers, que vers le speed metal. Le son était bon, la lumière aussi, l’attitude mi sérieuse mi comique, et on a eu droit à une reprise accélérée de Separate Ways de Journey.
THE SCEPTER
Personnellement, j’aime vraiment quand les groupes assument pleinement leur côté moins sérieux. Oui, la musique et le travail de scène sont sérieux, mais il faut aussi savoir s’amuser. C’est exactement ce que Ültra Raptör nous a livré, de l’action, de la conviction, une présence affirmée et des succès que les fans chantaient avec eux. Tout ce qu’il faut pour garder l’intérêt bien éveillé. Musique du Parc Jurassique, check. Habit de pilote de F1, check. Très divertissant.
ÜLTRA RAPTÖR
Enfin, je pense sincèrement que les gens n’étaient pas prêts pour le char d’assaut qu’est Warsenal. Même si le groupe arrive avec une intro plus lente, presque cinématographique, on sent une hésitation dans la foule avant que le mosh pit démarre, comme si tout le monde était figé par ce qui s’en venait. Difficile à croire, mais le trio est encore plus rapide, plus puissant, plus dynamique et encore plus dans notre face que la fois précédente. J’avais déjà vu Warsenal en 2018, et de toute évidence, j’avais oublié leur force de frappe. Ayoye que ça rentre au poste.

Tous ces groupes sont à voir si vous ne les connaissez pas encore.
Une autre soirée bien appréciée pour ma part. Brève mais intense, comme je le dis souvent, et surtout quand ça me permet d’exprimer mes frustrations à travers les musiciens et les chanteurs qui se démènent et qui crient à ma place.
Malheureusement, pas de setlist pour The Scepter.

Friday night, I went to La Source de la Martinière for another supposedly gentle evening to help shake off the winter blues. Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit when I say gentle. In reality, The Scepter, Ultra Raptor, and Warsenal were tasked with snapping us out of our torpor, and all three bands accomplished that mission quickly and effectively.
Coming from Ottawa and opening the night, whether you call it the opening act or the first act of hostilities is up to you, the members of The Scepter were dressed to theme, wearing cowboy boots, tight leather pants, and dark sunglasses. Musically, the band leans more toward heavy power metal, without keyboards, than speed metal. The sound was solid, the lighting worked well, the attitude balanced seriousness with humor, and we even got a sped up cover of Separate Ways by Journey.
Personally, I really appreciate it when bands fully embrace their not so serious side. Yes, the music and stage work are serious, but having fun matters too. That is exactly what Ultra Raptor delivered, action, conviction, a strong stage presence, and songs the fans were singing along to. Everything needed to keep the crowd engaged. Jurassic Park music, check. F1 racing suit, check. Highly entertaining.
Finally, I genuinely believe the crowd was not ready for the armored vehicle that is Warsenal. Even though the band comes in with a slower, almost cinematic intro, you can feel the hesitation in the room before the mosh pit starts, as if everyone is momentarily frozen. Hard to believe, but the trio is even faster, heavier, more dynamic, and even more in your face than the last time I saw them. I had previously seen Warsenal back in 2018, and clearly, I had forgotten just how hard they hit. It absolutely crushes.
All of these bands are worth seeing if you are not familiar with them yet.
Another night thoroughly enjoyed on my end. Short but intense, as I often say, especially when it allows me to release my frustrations through musicians and vocalists who go all out and scream on my behalf.
Unfortunately, there was no setlist available for The Scepter.
