Dernière journée de l’édition 2025 de Festival Au Lac 2025!
En plus d’Aryanne Marineau à la photographie, voici qui s’est occupé de chaque groupe pour cette troisième journée :

(Marc-André) Hey voilà, nous sommes déjà à la troisième et dernière journée du merveilleux Festival au Lac de Granby. Après deux excellentes journées, on termine ça en beauté avec une journée réservée à la brutalité, au hardcore et au metal !!
Cette fois, j’arrive pour l’ouverture, car je ne veux absolument pas manquer le set de mes amis d’Obscure Mantra. Il fait beau, il fait chaud, il fait soif, mais surtout, ils n’annoncent pas de pluie. Granby We’re Here !
J’écris ces lignes après la performance de Obscure Mantra, car j’ai vécu leur performance sur la barrière en avant pour soutenir mes chums, et je vais vous dire OH MY GOD que c’était INSANE ! Voir mes amis performer devant une foule aussi vivante avec une réception aussi magnifique, c’était un moment que je vais chérir pendant longtemps.
Sous un soleil tapant, tous les classiques des shows metal étaient au rendez-vous. Two-step, mosh-pits, wall of death et circle pits étaient bien vivants, et je suis super heureux que plusieurs personnes soient arrivées pour voir l’ascension de Obscure Mantra devant un public en feu. Le vocal d’Elrick était électrisant, le jeu de guitares d’Étienne et Alex était tout simplement magistral. Et que dire de l’excellence de l’exécution de la batterie de Raph, qui a volé le show du début à la fin. Les boys ont commencé avec trois chansons plus récentes (Heaven’s Mirage, Buried Idols, Lord of Terror) et ont enchaîné avec trois classiques des shows de Obscure Mantra : Decimation, Pawn of the Devil et Aphrodite.
J’ai eu le sourire pendant toute leur performance et, pour avoir vu le groupe à plusieurs reprises, c’était l’une des plus belles prestations que j’ai vues. 10/10 Longue vie à Obscure Mantra.
OBSCURE MANTRA
(Molly Caisse-Vee) Pour cette troisième journée, j’avais une belle mission : faire des stories, prendre des photos sur le fly et couvrir trois bands. Mission réussie, j’ai même réussi à vous sortir quelques anecdotes!
J’étais très heureuse d’y être!
Peer Pressure : Une claque… de chez nous
Ce band a été une magnifique découverte. Premièrement : Victoria Mladenovski. Quelle voix! Une puissance brute, à faire lever le plancher, ou plutôt, le site. C’était la seule femme à performer au FAL cette année, et croyez-moi, elle a livré toute une performance.
Dès les premières notes, le pit s’est formé. À un moment, Victoria est descendue de la scène pour chanter debout derrière la gate, créant une proximité avec la foule. Et comme si ce n’était pas assez, on a eu droit à une surprise : Michael Cyr-Landry, chanteur de Feels Like Home, est venu la rejoindre sur scène. Deux voix puissantes, deux présences scéniques qui se complète parfaitement. L’ambiance était électrisante!
PEER PRESSURE
(Marc-André) Alright, on continue avec Bodysnatcher qui revient dans notre belle province pour la première fois depuis 2022. Après l’introduction d’Isabelle Desjardins (Untitled/1), leurs fidèles commencent à scander leur nom en puissance pour une performance qui risque d’être haute en couleur. Ça ne prend que quelques notes avant que le pit s’ouvre et que l’action ne s’enflamme devant la scène du parc. Il fait chaud et il fait gros soleil, et la journée est juste parfaite pour vivre une expérience metal et hardcore à Granby. Ce qui est aussi vraiment génial est qu’il y a beaucoup plus de personnes aujourd’hui que durant les deux dernières journées.
Réclamant plus de crowd surfers, le band de la Floride reçoit un accueil très favorable de la part de la foule. Les trois Kyle et Chris sont clairement heureux d’être ici aujourd’hui. Que ce soit avec des titres comme Ego Trip, 12/17 ou Black of My Eyes, il n’y a eu aucun temps mort durant Bodysnatcher. Ils terminent avec King of the Rat, qui est la finale parfaite pour leur concert.
BODYSNATCHER
Madball, sans réel arrêt
(Molly) Je ne connaissais pas Madball, mais visiblement, j’étais l’une des rares. le groupe a complètement retourné la foule avec un set explosif. Le chanteur Freddy Cricien est une vraie bombe humaine : il sautait partout, courait d’un bord à l’autre, descendait de la scène pour interagir avec ses fans… du gros show, brut et sans filtre.
Moment marquant : il a chanté Get Out en laissant des fans hurler les paroles dans le micro. Et quand son micro a brisé un peu plus tard, ça a créé un petit moment mort, mais Cricien, fidèle à lui-même, a juste dit qu’il avait besoin d’un break de toute façon. Pause de courte durée, parce qu’aussitôt le micro fonctionnel trouvé, il est reparti de plus belle. (Spoiler : le micro s’est arrêté de nouveau. Il l’a carrément lancé sur la scène avant d’en prendre un autre).
Le groupe a aussi joué leur tout premier morceau, It’s My Life, ce qui a fait bien plaisir aux fans de longue date. Un beau clin d’œil aux débuts.
Anecdotes du terrain
- Shout out à la petite famille de guerriers (quatre enfants et un bébé!) qui a bravé la foule pendant le show de Blind Witness.
- L’entrée du festival avait une file d’environs 15 minutes pendant The Devil Wears Prada. Clairement, beaucoup étaient venus spécifiquement pour eux… et pour Slaughter To Prevail.
- Petit moment frustrant (mais drôle) : mes deux amies et moi voulions nous faire tatouer sur place. C’était déjà SOLD OUT quand on est arrivées! J’étais sincèrement surprise que la tente à tattoo soit aussi populaire, mais hey, c’est le FAL!
MADBALL
(Marc-André) Well, Granby est souvent reconnue pour son zoo ou bien les Vulgaires Machins. Mais n’oublions pas que BLIND WITNESS est aussi originaire de cette belle région. La troupe de Joe Cabana et Max Lacroix est de retour en force avec un nouveau single (At Peace) et, depuis leur absence, leur retour ce soir sera grandiose et très attendu.
La ligne pour la marchandise de Slaughter To Prevail est loin de se raccourcir et il reste encore deux groupes avant leur présence sur scène (finalement, il semblerait que la merch de Slaughter soit sold out). Enchaînant Since the Beginning et All Alone, les boys de Granby n’ont aucunement perdu leur power. Il y a beaucoup de partisans devant la scène prêts à se brasser les uns les autres, et c’est vraiment un honneur d’être présent pour leur retour.
Lors de leur prime, j’étais super fan de leur matériel. Leur album jouait à répétition lors de nos soirées. Joe en profite pour remercier la production et toute l’équipe derrière le Festival au Lac juste avant d’enchaîner avec Worthless Lie et I Am Hell.
Avant de jouer leur nouveau single, Joe nous informe que cela fait trois ans qu’il est sobre. Il ne pensait pas être capable de continuer à performer, mais il a vaincu ses démons. Good job Joe! Avec cette performance, Blind Witness prouve encore une fois qu’ils ont leur place dans la notoriété metal au Québec! Bon retour, guys! Ils terminent avec Baby One More Notch! au plaisir de tous et chacun.
BLIND WITNESS
The Devil Wears Prada, des frissons pour tous les emos de ce monde!
(Molly) C’est The Devil Wears Prada qui a annoncé à la foule qu’on battait des records cette année : ce samedi était officiellement la plus grosse journée de l’histoire du FAL. Rien de moins!
Le chanteur Mike Hranica a interagi avec la foule comme un pro : il a demandé qu’on lui envoie le fameux requin gonflable qui se promenait depuis un moment (mission réussie) et a même demandé un drink.
Durant Broken, ils ont lancé un appel : battre le record du plus grand nombre de crowd surfers de l’histoire du festival. Évidemment, j’ai saisi ma chance et me suis fait lancer dans les airs, un projet un peu dangereux, mais complètement trippant!
L’un des moments les plus touchants : Hranica a dédié la chanson Chemical à Dave Shapiro et Daniel Williams (premier batteur du groupe), récemment décédés dans un accident d’avion. Toute la foule a sorti sa flashlight, créant une mer de lumière pour un moment magnifique, suspendu.
Et, pour célébrer leurs 20 ans, le groupe a aussi joué Sacrifice, au grand bonheur de tous.
Le FAL, cette année encore, nous a prouvé qu’il est plus qu’un festival : c’est une communauté, un état d’esprit, un party dont on veut faire partie encore et encore!
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
(Marc-André) Connaissez-vous la chanson d’ouverture du film Blade? Si la réponse est non et que vous êtes au Festival Au Lac, maintenant vous la connaissez, car elle a joué pendant un bon dix minutes avant que Slaughter To Prevail embarque sur scène sur un tonnerre d’applaudissements. Le groupe de la Russie en est à sa deuxième présence au Québec et laissez-moi vous dire : ça brasse sur un moyen temps. Dès le début de leur set, le pit est violent et les cris se font entendre de partout sur le site du Festival Au Lac. Que ce soit avec des pièces comme Bonebreaker, Baba Yaga ou encore Song 3 (avec en back les voix de Babymetal), la réception est magistrale. Pendant une chanson, il semblerait que quelqu’un se soit blessé. Alex Terrible a demandé d’arrêter la chanson pour que ladite personne ait de l’assistance. Très belle job de toute l’équipe pour l’assistance de la personne en détresse.
Sérieusement, le set de Slaughter To Prevail est vraiment le plus violent du festival. Mais d’un autre côté, c’est vraiment super de voir tout le respect qu’Alex Terrible a pour son public. Après quelques chansons plus violentes l’une que l’autre, STP termine avec leur plus grosse chanson : Demolisher.
Après trois jours de pur bonheur, de joie et d’excellente musique, prenons une minute pour remercier tout le travail que l’équipe de Well Done Production a accompli durant tout le festival. Chaque année depuis leur création, le festival ne fait que s’améliorer et se développer davantage et je suis très heureux d’avoir pu vivre ce moment avec vous. Que ce soit avec le plaisir ska de Goldfinger, l’énergie de Atreyu et Underoath ou bien la brutalité à l’état pur de Slaughter To Prevail, l’édition 2025 du FAL a vraiment été une vraie partie de plaisir. Sur ce, je vous dis à l’année prochaine, si Dieu le veut!

OBSCURE MANTRA
(Marc-André) Hey, here we are already at the third and final day of the wonderful Festival Au Lac in Granby. After two amazing days, we’re closing things off in style with a day fully dedicated to brutality, hardcore, and metal!!
This time, I arrived right at the opening because I absolutely didn’t want to miss the set from my friends in Obscure Mantra. It’s sunny, it’s hot, it’s thirsty weather—but most importantly, no rain in the forecast. Granby, we’re here!
I’m writing this after Obscure Mantra’s performance because I experienced their set right up front on the barrier to support my friends, and let me tell you: OH MY GOD, it was INSANE! Seeing my friends perform in front of such a lively crowd with that kind of reception was a moment I’ll cherish for a long time.
Under a blazing sun, all the metal show classics were on display—two-stepping, mosh pits, wall of death, and circle pits were alive and well. I’m thrilled that so many people showed up to witness Obscure Mantra’s rise in front of a fired-up audience. Elrick’s vocals were electrifying, Étienne and Alex’s guitar work was simply masterful, and what can I say about Raph’s drumming—it stole the show from beginning to end. The guys kicked things off with three of their newer songs (Heaven’s Mirage, Buried Idols, Lord of Terror) and followed with three Obscure Mantra live staples: Decimation, Pawn of the Devil, and Aphrodite.
I was smiling the entire time, and having seen them live multiple times, this was one of their best sets ever. 10/10. Long live Obscure Mantra.
PEER PRESSURE
(Molly Caisse-Vee) For this third day, I had a fun mission: take stories, snap some on-the-fly photos, and cover three bands. Mission accomplished—and I’ve even got a few anecdotes for you!
I was so happy to be there.
Peer Pressure: A hometown punch to the face
This band was an amazing discovery. First off: Victoria Mladenovski. What a voice! Raw power that could shake the ground—or rather, the entire festival site. She was the only woman performing at FAL this year, and believe me, she gave one hell of a performance.
From the very first notes, a pit broke out. At one point, Victoria got off the stage to sing behind the gate, right in front of the crowd. And as if that wasn’t enough, we got a surprise guest: Michael Cyr-Landry, vocalist of Feels Like Home, joined her on stage. Two powerful voices, two strong stage presences that complemented each other perfectly. The vibe was electric!
BODYSNATCHER
(Marc-André) Alright, next up is Bodysnatcher, back in our beautiful province for the first time since 2022. After an introduction by Isabelle Desjardins (Untitled/1), their fans started chanting the band’s name at full volume for what promised to be an intense performance. It only took a few notes before the pit opened up and the chaos erupted in front of the park stage. The weather was perfect—sunny and hot—a great day for a hardcore and metal experience in Granby. Even better, today’s crowd was bigger than the first two days combined.
Calling for more crowd surfers, the Florida band received a huge welcome from the fans. The three Kyles and Chris were clearly stoked to be here. With tracks like Ego Trip, 12/17, and Black of My Eyes, there wasn’t a single dull moment. They ended with King of the Rat, the perfect closer for their set.
Madball, nonstop intensity
(Molly) I didn’t know Madball, but clearly I was one of the few. The band completely blew the crowd away with an explosive set. Frontman Freddy Cricien is a human bomb—jumping, running around, even coming off stage to interact with fans. It was a raw and unfiltered show.
Highlight: He performed Get Out while letting fans scream the lyrics into the mic. When his mic broke shortly after, it caused a brief pause—but Cricien just shrugged it off, saying he needed a break anyway. The moment was short-lived though; once a working mic was found, he jumped right back into it. (Spoiler: the new mic broke too. He tossed it across the stage and grabbed another.)
The band also played their very first song, It’s My Life, to the delight of longtime fans—a great throwback moment.
Anecdotes from the field
- Shout out to the warrior family (four kids and a baby!) who braved the crowd during Blind Witness.
- Entry lines reached about 15 minutes during The Devil Wears Prada. Clearly, many were here specifically for them… and Slaughter To Prevail.
- Funny/frustrating moment: my two friends and I wanted to get a tattoo at the festival… but it was already SOLD OUT when we arrived! I was honestly shocked at how popular the tattoo tent was—but hey, it’s FAL!
BLIND WITNESS
(Marc-André) Well, Granby is often known for its zoo or Vulgaires Machins. But let’s not forget that BLIND WITNESS also comes from this beautiful region. Led by Joe Cabana and Max Lacroix, the band is back in full force with a new single (At Peace), and after some time away, tonight’s return was highly anticipated.
The line for Slaughter To Prevail merch kept getting longer, and there were still two bands to go before they hit the stage. (Turns out, their merch ended up sold out.) Kicking things off with Since the Beginning and All Alone, the boys from Granby hadn’t lost an ounce of power. The front of the stage was packed with fans ready to throw down, and it was truly an honor to witness their return.
Back in their heyday, I was a huge fan—their album was on repeat at every hangout. Joe took a moment to thank the production and the whole team behind Festival Au Lac before launching into Worthless Lie and I Am Hell.
Before playing their new single, Joe shared that he’s been sober for three years. He didn’t think he’d be able to perform again, but he conquered his demons. Good job, Joe! With this performance, Blind Witness proves once again that they still deserve their place in Québec’s metal spotlight. Welcome back, guys! They closed with Baby One More Notch, to everyone’s delight.
The Devil Wears Prada – chills for every emo out there!
(Molly) The Devil Wears Prada were the ones to announce to the crowd that we’d broken records this year—this Saturday officially marked the biggest day in FAL’s history. No joke!
Singer Mike Hranica engaged with the crowd like a true pro—he asked for the now-famous inflatable shark that had been floating around (mission accomplished) and even asked for a drink.
During Broken, they called for the biggest number of crowd surfers in festival history. Of course, I seized the chance and got launched into the air—a little risky, but absolutely thrilling!
One of the most touching moments: Hranica dedicated Chemical to Dave Shapiro and Daniel Williams (the band’s original drummer), who recently passed away in a plane crash. Everyone held up their flashlights, creating a sea of lights for a truly breathtaking moment.
To celebrate their 20th anniversary, the band also played Sacrifice, which thrilled everyone.
Once again, FAL proved that it’s more than just a festival: it’s a community, a mindset, a party you want to be part of over and over again.
SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL
(Marc-André) Do you know the opening track from the movie Blade? If not, and you were at Festival Au Lac, now you do—it played for a good ten minutes before Slaughter To Prevail hit the stage to thunderous applause. The Russian band was making their second appearance in Québec, and let me tell you—it was absolute mayhem. From the moment they started, the pit turned violent and screams echoed throughout the festival grounds. With songs like Bonebreaker, Baba Yaga, and Song 3 (which featured Babymetal’s vocals in the background), the crowd went wild.
During one song, someone seemed to have gotten injured. Alex Terrible asked the band to stop playing so that person could get medical assistance. Huge kudos to the team for taking care of the situation quickly and respectfully.
Honestly, Slaughter To Prevail delivered the most brutal set of the festival—but at the same time, it was great to see the deep respect Alex has for his audience. After a string of brutally heavy songs, they wrapped things up with their biggest track: Demolisher.
After three days of pure happiness, joy, and amazing music, let’s take a moment to thank the entire Well Done Production team for their hard work throughout the festival. Each year since its creation, the festival keeps growing and getting better, and I’m truly glad to have experienced it with all of you. From the ska energy of Goldfinger to the raw energy of Atreyu and Underoath, to the sheer brutality of Slaughter To Prevail, the 2025 edition of FAL was a blast.
