Un retour attendu après 15 ans de silence
Pionniers autoproclamés du brass metal, FALLSTAF est probablement le seul groupe au monde à réunir un tromboniste masqué et un chanteur équipé d’une jambe robotisée. Quinze ans après leur dernier matériel original, ils prouvent qu’ils sont bel et bien vivants avec un son renouvelé, plus mûr et toujours aussi explosif.

Un album personnel, sombre et groovy
Avec Ode to the Dead, Fallstaf signe un retour profondément humain. Mélangeant le groove du metal moderne à la puissance brute du hardcore, le tout enveloppé de cuivres, le quintette livre un disque cathartique qui aborde la mort, la résilience, le deuil et la renaissance.
Le chanteur IANN, grièvement blessé en 2016 lors d’un accident qui lui a coûté une jambe et plongé dans le coma, revient plus fort que jamais. Cet événement tragique a inspiré plusieurs morceaux de l’album, dont Sunless Friday et The Burden.
Produit, mixé et masterisé par Kevin Jardine (Slaves On Dope) et illustré par Ian Lavoie, Ode to the Dead propose un son à la fois lourd, groovy et texturé.

1. Sunless Friday – Inspirée de l’accident d’IANN, la chanson recrée l’atmosphère froide et grise de ce jour tragique, portée par le cri du trombone.
2. Ode to the Dead – Un hommage aux défunts qui “marchent parmi nous”.
3. Battered Soul – Parle d’un homme qui s’est suicidé, de la douleur de vivre et de la dépression. Le morceau, plus lent, plonge dans le sludge metal.
4. Kings of the West Side – Un clin d’œil au Sud-Ouest de Montréal et à ses légendes du crime organisé.
5. Under the Same Sky – Réflexion sur un monde divisé mais uni sous un seul ciel.
6. Bastard Son – Le titre-phare du single, sur un fils tenté de suivre les traces de son père tueur à gages.
7. The Burden – Une pièce oppressante inspirée du combat contre le cancer, marquée par une fin mélancolique et libératrice.

« Je voulais une couverture qui ne soit pas trop macabre. J’ai pris une photo de crâne que j’ai superposée plusieurs fois avec différentes couleurs. Le crâne symbolise bien le titre de l’album et notre son — sombre dans les textes, mais pas forcément dans la musique. »

À propos de Fallstaf
Né des cendres de North East Bistro, Fallstaf voit le jour en 2009 avec une idée audacieuse : fusionner la puissance du metal avec l’énergie des cuivres. En 2011, leur premier album Bastard Sons of a Pure Breed, produit par Kevin Jardine, leur ouvre les portes de la scène québécoise et leur vaut le surnom de pionniers du brass metal.
De 2009 à 2015, le groupe se forge une solide réputation grâce à ses concerts explosifs, ses complets-cravates et son tromboniste masqué. Après l’accident d’IANN en 2016, le groupe fait une longue pause, avant de renaître en 2024 avec la même passion.
Leur musique, influencée par Pantera, Rivers of Nihil, Mr. Bungle, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Arseniq 33, Shining et Mighty Mighty Bosstones, combine groove metal, prog metal, metalcore et hardcore, tout en conservant un esprit expérimental et rassembleur.

With Ode to the Dead, Fallstaf delivers a deeply human return. Blending the groove of modern metal with the raw energy of hardcore and the bold punch of brass, the band offers a cathartic record exploring death, resilience, grief, and rebirth.
Frontman IANN, who survived a near-fatal accident in 2016 that left him in a coma and cost him his leg, comes back stronger than ever. This life-changing event inspired several tracks on the album, including Sunless Friday and The Burden.
Produced, mixed, and mastered by Kevin Jardine (Slaves On Dope), and featuring artwork by Ian Lavoie, Ode to the Dead delivers a sound that’s heavy, groovy, and richly textured.

About Fallstaf
Born from the ashes of North East Bistro, Fallstaf emerged in 2009 with a bold idea: to fuse the power of metal with the energy of brass. In 2011, their debut album Bastard Sons of a Pure Breed, produced by Kevin Jardine, opened doors across the Quebec metal scene, earning them the title of brass metal pioneers.
From 2009 to 2015, the band built a solid reputation thanks to their explosive live performances, sharp suits, and masked trombone player. After IANN’s 2016 accident, the band went silent — until 2024, when they reignited their passion and returned with a new creative fire.
Their sound draws influences from Pantera, Rivers of Nihil, Mr. Bungle, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Arseniq 33, Shining, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones, blending groove metal, prog metal, metalcore, and hardcore while keeping an experimental and unifying spirit.
