Pour bien commencer l’année 2026, j’ai eu le plaisir de vous proposer un récapitulatif du nouvel album de Crystal Lake, qui sortira ce 23 janvier. Moi qui ne connaissais aucunement cette formation japonaise pourtant formée en 2002, j’ai eu toute une surprise avec The Weight of Sound.
Je fais play sur la première chanson. BOOM, en pleine face! Un déferlement de violence! Je me fais lancer des notes agressives avec une drum rapide dès la première minute. Tout au long de cette chanson que je qualifie de bombe, on peut entendre le chanteur de Signs of the Swarm qui apporte sa petite touche.
Taylor Barber, chanteur de Left to Suffer, fait son apparition sur le deuxième morceau Bludgod. Treize secondes de presque-calme nous préparent à l’avalanche qui s’en vient. Encore de la batterie rapide mélangée avec des bouts plus rythmés, rappelant le bon vieux metalcore.<
La quatrième chanson, elle, nous retient dès les premières notes de guitare. Le chorus très accrocheur nous donne envie de chanter en unisson. Intitulée King Down, elle nous montre que John, le chanteur, peut aussi être plus doux dans son scream.
La chanson-titre de l’album, The Weight of Sound, transporte davantage de ressenti et nous montre le côté plus mélodique et sensible du quintuor. Elle débute avec une énergie très sentimentale, rappelant Lorna Shore, mais retourne assez rapidement à leur style. Définitivement l’une de mes préférées de l’album.
Une autre de mes préférées est Dystopia, dans laquelle Jesse Leach se manifeste avec un excellent passage où il se livre corps et âme pour la cause. Encore une fois, les sentiments sont au menu.
Pour conclure l’album, Crystal Lake nous plonge encore plus profondément dans une mer émotionnelle. Coma Wave nous berce doucement et devient de plus en plus puissante, avec une profondeur déchirante.
Des breakdowns, des riffs percutants avec un vocal guttural à souhait, des accalmies remplies d’émotions, c’est ce qui fait de Crystal Lake un excellent groupe. Aucunement déçu de ma découverte, je vous recommande ce groupe à 110 %.
Un gros 10/10 !

To kick off 2026 the right way, I had the pleasure of putting together a recap of the new album by Crystal Lake, set for release on January 23. Having been completely unfamiliar with this Japanese band, despite the fact that they formed back in 2002, I was in for quite a surprise with The Weight of Sound.
I hit play on the opening track. BOOM, right in the face! A full-on surge of violence. Aggressive notes come flying at me, driven by fast-paced drums from the very first minute. Throughout this song, which I’d easily describe as a bomb, you can hear the vocalist from Signs of the Swarm adding his own distinctive touch.
Taylor Barber, vocalist of Left to Suffer, makes an appearance on the second track, Bludgod. Thirteen seconds of near calm prepare us for the avalanche that’s about to hit. Once again, fast drumming is blended with more rhythmic sections, recalling classic metalcore.
The fourth song grabs us right from the opening guitar notes. The highly catchy chorus makes you want to sing along in unison. Titled King Down, it shows that John, the band’s vocalist, can also take a softer approach with his scream.
The album’s title track, The Weight of Sound, carries even more emotion and reveals the more melodic and sensitive side of the quintet. It opens with a very emotional energy, reminiscent of Lorna Shore, before quickly returning to their core sound. Without a doubt, one of my favorites on the album.
Another personal favorite is Dystopia, which features Jesse Leach, delivering an excellent section where he pours his heart and soul into the performance. Once again, emotion is front and center.
To close out the album, Crystal Lake pulls us even deeper into an emotional sea. Coma Wave gently rocks the listener before growing increasingly powerful, carrying a deeply heartbreaking intensity.
Breakdowns, hard-hitting riffs paired with guttural vocals, and emotion-filled calm passages, this is what makes Crystal Lake such an outstanding band. Far from disappointed by this discovery, I recommend this group 110%.
A solid 10/10!
