Après les sorties instrumentales Ritual I et Ritual II, le duo rock progressif canadien Crown Lands est de retour le 15 mai 2026 avec son nouvel album intitulé Apocalypse via InsideOutMusic. À quoi s’attendre? Le duo revient avec une puissante sortie rock assumée, aux allures un peu vintage dans son essence.
Comment ne pas aimer les incroyables Though The Looking Glass et Blackstar? Avec leurs refrains accrocheurs, Crown Lands nous offre une véritable claque au visage. C’est rock, c’est mélodique, avec des sonorités pures et plus grinçantes, mais toujours dans un équilibre bien maîtrisé. Blackstar est l’un des gros moments de la sortie et les solos de guitare y sont particulièrement marquants. Il y a quelque chose de très années 70 dans l’approche du groupe.
Cependant, les influences semblent davantage se diriger vers les années 80 avec The Fall, qui rappelle la musique des grandes danses de fin d’année. L’atmosphère générale de cette pièce évoque une sortie pop ou pop dance/disco, tout en conservant des passages très rock. Évidemment, on a droit à la ballade avec The Revenants I, et on se dit ensuite que c’est probablement terminé. Oh boy! Pas du tout.
Le disque se termine avec la pièce-titre, Apocalypse, une longue épopée de 19 minutes! Les synthétiseurs, la montée en intensité de la batterie, qui rappelle énormément ce qu’on retrouvait dans les grandes années du rock progressif, tout ça, ce n’est que le début. Vers 7 minutes 30, c’est une véritable apocalypse… puis le groupe repart de plus belle. Le genre de titre conçu pratiquement pour avoir son propre mini-film tellement Crown Lands nous plonge dans un univers immersif grâce à son écriture et à ses compositions. Si vous aimez les longues chansons qui racontent une histoire, vous allez adorer.
Avec cette sortie, Crown Lands ira sans aucun doute chercher un nouveau public. Grâce à ses mélodies très accessibles, les fans de prog y trouveront également leur compte, spécialement sur la dernière pièce. Avec Apocalypse, Crown Lands nous entraîne dans un véritable voyage à travers les différentes époques marquantes des 50 dernières années de musique.

Following the instrumental releases Ritual I and Ritual II, Canadian progressive rock duo Crown Lands returned on May 15, 2026 with their new album Apocalypse via InsideOutMusic. What should listeners expect? The duo comes back with a powerful and unapologetic rock release that carries a strong vintage essence throughout.
How could anyone not love the incredible Though The Looking Glass and Blackstar? With their catchy choruses, Crown Lands delivers a real punch to the face. It’s rock, it’s melodic, with pure and grittier sounds, yet everything remains perfectly balanced. Blackstar stands out as one of the album’s strongest moments, and the guitar solos are especially memorable. There’s a very noticeable 70s influence in the band’s overall approach.
However, the influences shift more toward the 80s with The Fall, a song that feels reminiscent of classic end-of-year dance music. Its overall atmosphere leans into pop or dance/disco territory while still maintaining very rock-driven passages. Of course, the album also features a ballad with The Revenants I, and at that point, you might think the journey is coming to an end. Oh boy, not at all!
The record closes with the title track, Apocalypse, a massive 19-minute epic. The synthesizers, the growing intensity of the drums, and the overall structure strongly recall the glory days of progressive rock, and that’s only the beginning. Around the 7:30 mark, it truly feels like an apocalypse unfolding before the band launches back into another explosive section. It’s the kind of song that practically deserves its own short film because of how immersive Crown Lands makes the experience through its songwriting and compositions. If you enjoy long songs that tell a story, you are going to love this track.
With this release, Crown Lands will undoubtedly attract a whole new audience. Thanks to its highly accessible melodies, progressive rock fans will also find plenty to enjoy, especially on the final track. With Apocalypse, Crown Lands takes listeners on a true journey through some of the most defining musical eras of the past 50 years.
