Le 24 octobre dernier, le Club Soda était à son comble pour une soirée aussi éclectique qu’authentique réunissant The Matchup, Pépé et sa guitare et Rouge Pompier. Trois univers bien distincts, mais unis par un fil conducteur : la passion et la sincérité brute de la scène québécoise. L’organisation a même fait venir un tatoueur pour faire des logos de Rouge Pompier sur les volontaires!
The Matchup a ouvert la soirée. Moi qui les voyais pour la première fois, j’ai été surpris de voir seulement deux hommes avec leurs guitares tassés sur le côté du stage. Pourtant, tout le monde connaissait les paroles. Un début en douceur pour mettre la table. Mettant en avant leurs harmonies vocales et la chimie évidente qui les lie, ce fut parfait pour plonger doucement le public dans l’ambiance. Nous avons même eu droit à un moment intime lorsque le meilleur ami de Rat est monté sur la scène pour lui demander d’être son garçon d’honneur lors de son mariage.
Chacun et chacune présent(e) ce soir-là s’impliquait vocalement avec chaque artiste.
THE MATCHUP
Le ton a ensuite changé avec Pépé et sa guitare, véritable pilier de la chanson québécoise alternative. Fidèle à lui-même, Pépé a su mêler humour, proximité et émotion avec une aisance désarmante. Entre deux interventions spontanées de sa conjointe, il a offert un des moments les plus marquants de la soirée : l’interprétation de « Plus souvent que tu penses ». La salle entière s’est tue, suspendue à chaque mot. On pouvait sentir une charge émotive rare, celle d’un artiste qui ne triche pas. Pour ensuite chanter « Bobette Bob » en chœur avec le public.
PÉPÉ ET SA GUITARE
Puis, place à Rouge Pompier, qui a littéralement renversé le Club Soda pour une quatrième fois. Installés au centre de la salle sur une scène ajoutée exprès pour l’occasion, le duo a plongé le public dans une expérience immersive totale. Entourés à 360 degrés par les fans, ils ont livré une performance explosive, à la fois brute et rassembleuse. Cette disposition inhabituelle a aboli la distance entre groupe et spectateurs, transformant le concert en un véritable échange d’énergie. Nous avons eu droit à un moment des plus émouvants lorsqu’ils ont interprété la chanson « métal » avec The Matchup de retour sur la scène principale. La salle du Club Soda a vibré sous les voix des centaines de personnes présentes. Très belle expérience pour une première fois avec RP.
En résumé, cette soirée au Club Soda a été une célébration de la scène locale dans toute sa richesse : l’intimité de The Matchup, la sincérité de Pépé et la fougue de Rouge Pompier se sont parfaitement complétées. Un événement marquant, où la musique québécoise a prouvé qu’elle pouvait encore, et toujours, rassembler, faire vibrer et émouvoir.

On October 24, Club Soda was packed to the rafters for a night as eclectic as it was authentic, bringing together The Matchup, Pépé et sa guitare, and Rouge Pompier. Three very distinct musical worlds, united by one common thread: the passion and raw sincerity of the Québec music scene. The organizers even brought in a tattoo artist to ink Rouge Pompier logos on willing fans!
The Matchup kicked off the evening. Seeing them for the first time, I was surprised to find just two guys with their guitars tucked to the side of the stage. Yet, everyone in the crowd knew the lyrics. A gentle start that perfectly set the tone for the night. With their vocal harmonies and obvious chemistry, it was the ideal way to ease the audience into the mood. We even witnessed an intimate moment when Rat’s best friend came on stage to ask him to be his best man for his wedding.
Everyone in attendance that night took part vocally with each artist.
The mood then shifted with Pépé et sa guitare, a true pillar of Québec’s alternative song scene. True to himself, Pépé blended humor, intimacy, and emotion with disarming ease. Between two spontaneous remarks from his partner, he offered one of the most touching moments of the evening: a performance of Plus souvent que tu penses. The entire venue fell silent, hanging on every word. You could feel a rare emotional charge, that of an artist who doesn’t fake it. Then, the crowd joyfully sang Bobette Bob in unison.
Then came Rouge Pompier, who literally blew the roof off Club Soda for the fourth time. Set up in the middle of the venue on a stage built specially for the occasion, the duo plunged the audience into a fully immersive experience. Surrounded 360 degrees by fans, they delivered an explosive, raw, and unifying performance. This unusual setup erased the distance between band and audience, turning the show into a true exchange of energy. One of the most emotional moments came when they performed métal with The Matchup back on the main stage. The entire Club Soda vibrated under the voices of hundreds of fans. A great experience for a first time seeing RP live.
In short, this evening at Club Soda was a celebration of the local scene in all its richness: the intimacy of The Matchup, the sincerity of Pépé, and the energy of Rouge Pompier perfectly complemented one another. A memorable event where Québec music once again proved its power to unite, move, and inspire.
