Une soirée rock haute en couleurs!
Wow… quelle soirée! Bien honnêtement, c’est rare que je débute un texte de cette façon, mais ce passage de Bryan Adams au Centre Vidéotron risque de marquer les esprits pour très longtemps. Après un arrêt à Montréal la veille, c’était au tour de Québec de recevoir la visite du chanteur rock canadien dans le cadre de sa tournée Roll With The Punches World Tour. Dès notre arrivée au Centre Vidéotron, on reçoit l’un de ces fameux bracelets blancs électroniques. Personnellement, j’ai pu voir Big Flo & Oli l’utiliser auparavant au Centre Vidéotron et ça donne toujours un effet unique avec la multitude de lumières. À noter, les bracelets sont entièrement contrôlés à distance par la régie.
À l’intérieur, on sent que nous allons vivre une soirée spéciale dans cette salle qui semblait à pleine capacité.
Le premier groupe à monter sur scène a été la formation rock de l’Ouest canadien The Sheepdogs. Avec quelques interactions avec la foule en français, les membres ont su offrir une soirée bien colorée. À travers leur look et leurs sonorités rock old school des années 70, c’est avec le single de 2010 I Don’t Know que le groupe a vraiment explosé dans les stations de rock au Québec. Depuis, le groupe continue son parcours tout en nostalgie. D’ailleurs, il a pu nous présenter sa nouveauté Nobody But You, sortie quelques jours avant le 3 octobre. Une chanson qui cadre bien avec l’esprit de la soirée — entre rock et rétro. Personnellement, je crois qu’ils ont su gagner quelques fans. Une musique remplie de sincérité.
Cependant, on ne va pas se le cacher, les milliers de fans présents au Centre Vidéotron étaient là pour le rockeur canadien Bryan Adams. Celui que plusieurs voyaient comme la réponse canadienne à Bon Jovi n’a rien perdu de sa fougue et de son énergie. Il était de passage à Québec, dans la Capitale-Nationale, dans le cadre de la tournée Roll With The Punches, son nouvel album, qui est d’ailleurs excellent. Sorti en août dernier, l’album est une sorte de retour à ce qui a fait la popularité de Bryan Adams : un rock accrocheur et même certaines sonorités de l’époque. Pour ce spectacle, Bryan Adams n’a pas fait les choses à moitié. Avant le spectacle, l’écran géant affichait un Bryan Adams en boxeur, et ce n’était pas pour rien. Pendant que les yeux étaient rivés vers la scène principale, c’est plutôt sur une mini-scène aménagée près des gradins qu’il débute le spectacle avec deux chansons acoustiques. À partir de cet instant, nous savions que nous allions avoir droit à quelque chose de spécial. Après ces deux chansons, tel un boxeur, une lumière blanche l’a guidé à travers le parterre vers la scène principale. Le résultat était plutôt surprenant. Une mention spéciale à notre photographe François Morisset, qui avait l’honneur d’être le seul à pouvoir prendre des clichés à Québec.
Par la suite, c’est une succession de bangers after bangers after bangers… after bangers! Un monstrueux setlist de 27 chansons devant une foule en délire! Au cours de la soirée, différentes vidéos et vidéoclips sont présentés sur l’écran géant, et il nous rappelle à quel point il n’était pas le plus grand fan de l’arrivée des vidéoclips dans le paysage musical, principalement à cause de sa coupe de cheveux sur Summer of ’69… et comme il dit à la blague : ensuite, Internet est arrivé. D’ailleurs, vous remarquerez qu’il n’y a pas beaucoup de cellulaires dans les premières rangées du parterre. Nous avons eu droit aux incontournables Run To You, Heaven, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, sans oublier des titres de son nouvel album dont la pièce-titre et Make Up Your Mind. Le party a littéralement « pogné » avec sa reprise de Twist and Shout, qui a pris des allures festives de l’époque où il demandait aux fans de danser – même quelques chandails ont pris le bord! Pour la chanson Me Voilà, il a fait monter une fan du nom de Lilly pour l’accompagner au chant sur scène. Originaire de Montréal, elle a reçu quelques huées, mais c’était plus sympathique que méchant.
Honnêtement, c’est l’une des choses que je retiens le plus de cette soirée : il veut créer quelque chose de spécial. Il ne se contente pas de jouer ses classiques, Bryan Adams tente vraiment de leur donner vie. Accompagné depuis 1979 par son guitariste Keith Scott, on voit rapidement que la camaraderie est forte. Le chanteur de 65 ans est dans une forme resplendissante qui défie le temps. Sa prestation fut énergique, passionnée, et sa voix était pratiquement parfaite. Il a su faire les bons choix et c’est ce qui nous a permis de vivre une si belle soirée.

A vibrant, high-energy rock night!
Wow… what a night! Honestly, it’s rare that I start an article this way, but Bryan Adams’ performance at the Centre Vidéotron is one that will be remembered for a long time. After a stop in Montreal the night before, it was Quebec City’s turn to welcome the Canadian rock singer as part of his Roll With The Punches World Tour. Upon arriving at the venue, fans were handed one of those famous white electronic wristbands. Personally, I’d seen Big Flo & Oli use them before at the same venue, and it always creates a stunning visual effect with all the synchronized lights. It’s worth noting that these wristbands are entirely controlled remotely by the production team.
Inside, you could feel the excitement — this was going to be a special night in a nearly packed arena.
The first band to take the stage was the Western Canadian rock group The Sheepdogs. With a few interactions in French, the members quickly charmed the crowd. Their look and old-school 70s rock sound set the tone, and it was with their 2010 single I Don’t Know that the band truly broke through on Quebec rock radio. Since then, they’ve continued their nostalgic journey, and they treated the audience to their latest single Nobody But You, released just a few days before October 3rd. The song fit perfectly with the evening’s atmosphere — somewhere between rock and retro. Personally, I think they gained a few new fans that night. Their music was filled with sincerity.
But let’s be honest: the thousands of people in the Centre Vidéotron were there for Bryan Adams. The artist, often seen as the Canadian answer to Bon Jovi, hasn’t lost an ounce of his passion or energy. Performing in Quebec City as part of the Roll With The Punches tour, his new album — released in August — is an excellent return to form. The record brings back the catchy rock sound that made Bryan Adams famous, with a touch of vintage flair. For this concert, he pulled out all the stops. Before the show, the giant screen displayed Bryan Adams dressed as a boxer — and that was no coincidence. While everyone’s eyes were on the main stage, he surprised the audience by starting the concert on a small secondary stage near the stands with two acoustic songs. From that moment, it was clear we were in for something special. After those first two songs, a white spotlight guided him through the crowd like a boxer entering the ring, leading him to the main stage — an impressive entrance. Special mention to photographer François Morisset, who had the honor of being the only one allowed to capture photos of the show in Quebec City.
What followed was banger after banger after banger… after banger! A massive setlist of 27 songs in front of an ecstatic crowd. Throughout the evening, various videos and clips were projected on the big screen, and Bryan Adams reminded everyone with humor that he wasn’t exactly a fan of the music video era — mostly because of his haircut in Summer of ’69. “And then,” he joked, “the Internet came along.”
Interestingly, there were very few cell phones visible in the first rows – a refreshing sight these days.
The hits came one after another: Run To You, Heaven, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, along with new songs from his latest album, including the title track and Make Up Your Mind. The party truly took off with his cover of Twist and Shout, a throwback to the days when he encouraged fans to get up and dance — even a few shirts flew off! For Me Voilà, he invited a fan named Lilly on stage to sing with him. Originally from Montreal, she got a few playful boos from the crowd, but it was all in good fun.
Honestly, what stood out the most from this night was his desire to create something special. Bryan Adams didn’t just play his classics — he brought them to life. Accompanied by his longtime guitarist Keith Scott, who’s been with him since 1979, their chemistry was undeniable. At 65 years old, Bryan Adams is in remarkable shape, defying time itself. His performance was energetic, passionate, and vocally near perfect. He made all the right choices, and that’s what made this such a memorable evening.
If he comes back to your city, don’t hesitate – you’re guaranteed to have an incredible night!
