À chaque année, les métalleux envahissent la 7e rue pour le fameux spectacle métal du Festival de musique émergente en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (FME). En 2025, ce sont Despised Icon, Scorching Tomb et Digital Ghosts qui ont fait l’honneur de leur présence aux pwels du 08. Et, une fois de plus, le spectacle présenté en collaboration avec les Productions Ça bûche s’est déroulé à guichets fermés.
Sur les planches du Petit Théâtre pour la première fois
La soirée a débuté à 20 h tapantes avec la nouvelle formation rouynorandienne de metalcore et modern metal Digital Ghosts. Le groupe, qui donnait sa première prestation au FME, rien de moins, comporte toutefois des musiciens aguerris de la scène métal témiscabitibienne. Malgré un brin de nervosité, Digital Ghosts a offert une remarquable prestation; la foule, elle, avait fait ses devoirs, connaissant toutes les pièces du EP Shifting Sands, pourtant lancé que 30 jours auparavant.
DIGITAL GHOSTS
Scorching Tomb et son death metal montréalais a aussi foulé les planches du Petit Théâtre du Vieux-Noranda pour la première fois le 31 août. La formation a bravé la 117 et passé le parc de la Vérendrye pour présenter des pièces de son premier LP à paraître le 24 octobre, Ossuary. Petits et grands, métalleux ou tout simplement curieux dotés d’une passe du festival on découvert un death décapant avec quelques petites pointes de hardcore.

Démarrer 2025 en force
Le clou du spectacle, Despised Icon, ne sait pas fait attendre à Rouyn-Noranda. Le groupe de deathcore de Montréal, qui prépare sa tournée pour son nouvel opus, Shadow Work (à paraître à l’Halloween),a démarré son année 2025 en force avec un public infatigable et déchaîné. Plusieurs spectateurs ont d’ailleurs amené leur progéniture à la soirée, profitant du long congé de la Fête du travail pour leur faire découvrir “d’la vraie musique”.

Arrêt dans la ruelle du Cab’ après la soirée
Petite surprise! Après la prestation de Despised Icon, la foule était invitée à un show de dernière minute de Guhn Twei, la formation grindcore de Rouyn-Noranda. Douce ironie, comme on voyait les cheminées de la Fonderie Horne en arrière-plan! J’y ai fait un petit tour quand le party commençait à pogner. Ce sont les petites surprises en marge du FME!

Every year, metalheads flock to 7th Street in Rouyn-Noranda for the FME Festival’s metal show. In 2025, Despised Icon, Scorching Tomb, and Digital Ghosts, who graced Quebec’s administrative region 08 with their presence. And, once again, the show, presented in collaboration with Productions Ça bûche, was a sold-out performance.
For the first time, on the stage of the Petit Théâtre
The evening began at 8 p.m. sharp with the new Rouyn-Noranda metalcore and modern metal band Digital Ghosts. Although it was their very first FME appearance, the band boasted veteran musicians from the Abitibi metal scene. Despite feeling slightly anxious, Digital Ghosts put on an exceptional show, thanks to the audience’s familiarity with their songs, having recently released the Shifting Sands EP.
Scorching Tomb and its Montreal death metal also graced the stage of the Petit Théâtre du Vieux-Noranda for the first time on August 31st. The band braved Highway 117 and passed through Vérendrye Park to perform tracks from their upcoming LP, Ossuary, scheduled for release on October 24th. Young and old, metalheads, or simply curious fans with a festival pass discovered a blistering death metal with a hint of hardcore.
Starting 2025 with a bang
The highlight of the show, Despised Icon, didn’t keep Rouyn-Noranda waiting. The Montreal-based deathcore group, gearing up for a North American tour in support of their upcoming album, Shadow Work (scheduled for release on Halloween), began the year with an explosive performance. A relentless and energetic audience was present, including some parents who brought their children, using the extended Labour Day weekend as an opportunity to expose their young ones to “real” music.

And surprise! After Despised Icon’s performance, the crowd was invited to a last-minute concert by Guhn Twei, the grindcore, socially active band from Rouyn-Noranda. It’s a sweet irony, as we could see the Horne smelter stacks in the background! I stopped by just as the festivities were getting underway, and I can attest that these spontaneous moments are the little surprises that sometimes happen at the FME!
