RIVERS OF NIHIL : TOP 5 DES SHOWS METAL DE L’ANNÉE
ENFIN !!! Je les ai vus ! RIVERS OF NIHIL, depuis 5 ans, ne cesse de monter dans mon estime, au point de devenir l’un de mes meilleurs bands metal. Ils étaient de passage à Montréal samedi dernier, le 21 juin.
Un spectacle d’une énergie contagieuse, livré par des musiciens tout simplement incroyables. Du bassiste-chanteur Adam Biggs, au drummer-chanteur Jared Klein, en passant par le très efficace saxophoniste Patrick Corona, le band est juste incroyable en show ! Techniques et d’une précision remarquable, ils ont joué plusieurs morceaux pour offrir une prestation intense. Évidemment, Rivers of Nihil en a profité pour faire la promotion de son plus récent album éponyme, sorti le 30 mai dernier via Metal Blade Records. Voici la setlist de la soirée : The Sub-Orbital Blues, The Silent Life, American Death, A Home, The Void From Which No Sound Escapes, Water & Time, House of Light, Death Is Real, Episode, Where Owls Know My Name, et en rappel, Clean. Selon moi, c’est l’un des meilleurs shows de l’année jusqu’à maintenant.

En ouverture, une belle découverte pour moi : HOLY FAWN a su capter l’attention des spectateurs avec un post-metal très émotif, aux passages lourds, mélancoliques et intenses. Le groupe en a profité pour jouer son plus récent single Beneath A Lightless Star, sorti sur les plateformes numériques le 28 mai.
HOLY FAWN
Juste avant, Inter Arma, un groupe américain d’extrême metal originaire de Richmond, Virginie, a fait brasser la scène déjà pratiquement remplie, ce qui est rare dans un show incluant quatre groupes. Le groupe continue de faire la promotion de son plus récent album New Heaven, sorti l’année dernière. Un groupe qui monte clairement en popularité.
INTER ARMA
Malheureusement, j’ai manqué Glacier Tomb, qui avait déjà terminé à mon arrivée. Pour découvrir la musique de ce groupe metal extrême du Wisconsin, voici leur Bandcamp.

RIVERS OF NIHIL: TOP 5 METAL SHOWS OF THE YEAR
FINALLY!!! I saw them! For the past five years, RIVERS OF NIHIL have kept climbing higher in my estimation — to the point of becoming one of my favorite metal bands. They stopped by Montreal last Saturday, June 21st.
It was a show with contagious energy, delivered by musicians who were simply incredible. From bassist-vocalist Adam Biggs, to drummer-vocalist Jared Klein, to the very effective saxophonist Patrick Corona, the band is just amazing live! Technical and remarkably precise, they played several tracks to deliver an intense performance. Of course, Rivers of Nihil took the opportunity to promote their latest self-titled album, released on May 30th via Metal Blade Records. Here’s the setlist from the night: The Sub-Orbital Blues, The Silent Life, American Death, A Home, The Void From Which No Sound Escapes, Water & Time, House of Light, Death Is Real, Episode, Where Owls Know My Name, and as an encore, Clean. In my opinion, it’s one of the best shows of the year so far.
As the opening act, a great discovery for me: HOLY FAWN really captured the crowd’s attention with very emotional post-metal, full of heavy, melancholic and intense passages. They also took the chance to perform their latest single Beneath A Lightless Star, released on streaming platforms on May 28th. Just before that, Inter Arma, an American extreme metal band from Richmond, Virginia, got the already packed venue moving — which is rare for a four-band lineup. The band is still promoting their latest album, New Heaven, released last year. They’re definitely gaining popularity.
