Festival Au Lac : Comment bien commencer la saison!
J’ai couvert la deuxième journée du Festival Au Lac (FAL), et c’était tout un show.
Avant même de parler musique, je veux mettre en lumière l’ambiance de l’évènement. Tout le monde est fin, chaleureux et bienveillant. Il y a des tentes pour tout : skateboarding, sauces piquantes, tatouages, autocollants… tu repars avec le souvenir de ton choix. Que je connaisse les groupes ou pas, à chaque année, c’est un coup de cœur.
Ce vendredi, c’est This Disaster, Four Year Strong, Atreyu, Silverstein et Underoath qui ont enflammé la scène.
J’ai découvert This Disaster en préparant ma playlist du festival, et honnêtement? Grosse révélation! Le groupe québécois a été un choix parfait pour ouvrir le bal. Énergiques, accueillants, et surtout solides sur scène. Définitivement un nom à surveiller de près, spécialement parce qu’ils sortent de la nouveauté prochainement.
THIS DISASTER
Puis, Four Year Strong est monté sur scène avec une vibe plus punk, et une foule déjà conquise. Les fans hurlaient chaque chanson avec une intensité folle. Ils ne passent pas souvent par ici, donc quand ils le font, on en profite au max.
FOUR YEAR STRONG
Mais mon coup de cœur personnel de la soirée? Atreyu, sans hésiter. Je les ai vus plusieurs fois en spectacle, et ils livrent toujours la marchandise. Quand ils sont débarqués sur scène, la foule s’est complètement déchainée. Mon meilleur ami avait prédit leur chanson d’ouverture : Drowning. Et là, le pit a explosé. C’était du grand n’importe quoi dans le meilleur sens possible : ça bougeait, ça poussait, les crowd surfers volaient partout.
Le chanteur Brandon Seller est même descendu dans la foule pendant The Time Is Now. Juste wow. Ensuite, j’ai fait du crowd surfin moi aussi pendant Blow, risqué, mais tellement trippant! Ce band est taillé sur mesure pour faire lever un party. Je dois avouer avoir été un peu déçue de ne pas entendre Battle Drums, mais ça n’a rien enlevé à leur prestation. Après leur set, j’avais chaud… et mal partout. Mais ça en valait la peine.
ATREYU
Silverstein a pris la relève avec une énergie fulgurante. Dès les premières notes, on sentait que plusieurs étaient là juste pour eux : la foule s’est rapprochée de la scène ou s’est levée de son spot pour les voir.
Pour être honnête, j’ai profité du début de leur set pour aller manger mes nachos, tout en les écoutant de loin. Et… ils m’ont impressionnée! Je ne les avais jamais vue en live. Leur énergie est contagieuse. Quand ils ont joué Smile In Your Sleep, je me suis ruée dans la foule pour en profiter à fond (et aussi pour me réchauffer un peu avouons-le!).
SILVERSTEIN
C’est Underoath qui a clôturé la soirée en beauté. Je ne les connaissais pas beaucoup, mais j’ai vraiment apprécié leur performance. Leur jeu de lumière était particulièrement réussi, ajoutant une ambiance presque magique. Leur setlist était solide, et même si tout le monde était épuisé (ou trop chaud), personne ne voulait que ça se termine.

Festival Au Lac: What a Way to Kick Off the Season!
I covered the second day of Festival Au Lac (FAL), and it was quite a show.
Before even getting into the music, I want to highlight the vibe of the event. Everyone is kind, warm, and welcoming. There are tents for everything: skateboarding, hot sauces, tattoos, stickers… you leave with the souvenir of your choice. Whether I know the bands or not, every year it wins me over.
This Friday, This Disaster, Four Year Strong, Atreyu, Silverstein, and Underoath lit up the stage.
I discovered This Disaster while preparing my festival playlist, and honestly? Big revelation! The Quebec-based band was a perfect choice to open the night. Energetic, friendly, and most of all, tight on stage. Definitely a band to keep an eye on—especially since they’ve got new material coming soon.
Then Four Year Strong hit the stage with a punk vibe and a crowd that was already all-in. Fans were screaming every song with wild intensity. They don’t come around here often, so when they do, you make the most of it.
But my personal favorite of the night? Hands down, Atreyu. I’ve seen them live a few times, and they always deliver. As soon as they hit the stage, the crowd went wild. My best friend predicted their opening song: Drowning. And then, the pit exploded. It was absolute chaos—in the best possible way. People were moving, pushing, crowd surfers were flying everywhere.
Singer Brandon Saller even came down into the crowd during The Time Is Now. Just wow.
Later, I went crowd surfing myself during Blow—risky, but so thrilling! This band is built to get the party going. I’ll admit I was a bit bummed not to hear Battle Drums, but it didn’t take anything away from their set. Afterward, I was hot… and sore all over. But it was so worth it.
Silverstein kept the momentum going with blazing energy. From the first notes, it was clear many were there just for them—the crowd rushed to the front or stood up from their spots to get closer.
To be honest, I used the start of their set to go grab some nachos while listening from afar. And… they impressed me! I had never seen them live before. Their energy is contagious. When they played Smile In Your Sleep, I rushed into the crowd to soak it all in (and, let’s be honest, to warm up a little!).
Underoath closed the night in style. I didn’t know them very well, but I really enjoyed their performance. Their lighting effects were especially well done, creating an almost magical atmosphere. Their setlist was solid, and even though everyone was exhausted (or overheated), no one wanted it to end.
