C’est dans une Place Bell à Laval archicomble et chargée à bloc qu’une des tournées les plus populaires et attendues de l’année s’est arrêtée pour rassembler une foule de partisans de metalcore venus de partout dans la province. Le Poisoned Ascendancy Tour, regroupant Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, August Burns Red et Bleed From Within, affiche complet depuis longtemps, les billets s’étant envolés rapidement en septembre dernier.

Partageant le territoire avec le Salon de la passion médiévale, l’ambiance autour de la Place Bell était électrisante. Entre les chevaliers, les mousquetaires et les métalleux québécois, on peut dire que nous avons vécu une magnifique journée printanière, rythmée par des coups de canon qui annonçaient les festivités. Sous peu, celles-ci allaient se déplacer à l’intérieur de l’aréna avec le début du spectacle de Bleed From Within. For Those About To Rock, We Salute You!

Alors que plusieurs arrivaient pour assister à la courte performance du groupe écossais de Glasgow, la troupe de Scott Kennedy s’est montrée très reconnaissante de l’accueil qu’on leur a réservé. Pour ceux qui ne les connaissaient pas, je suis certain que leur prestation les aura convaincus. Personnellement, j’ai adoré les interprétations de Levitate et The End of All We Know. Une introduction un peu trop brève à mon goût, mais efficace. 8/10

August Burns Red ont déjà joué souvent au Québec, et sauf erreur de ma part, c’était peut-être une première sur une aussi grosse scène d’aréna (n’hésitez pas à me corriger si ce n’est pas le cas). Pour les avoir vus plusieurs fois, j’ai été satisfait de leur performance. Une reprise de Chop Suey de System of a Down en ouverture a été une excellente surprise, et évidemment, les classiques comme Composure et White Washed ont été très bien reçus. Étonnamment, aucun morceau de leur dernier album Death Below n’a été joué. Ils ont plutôt choisi trois chansons de Guardians et deux singles (Vengeance et Exhumed). 7/10

AUGUST BURNS RED

Passons maintenant à la pièce de résistance : l’interprétation complète de Ascendancy par Trivium. C’était tout simplement parfait. Matt Heafy et sa bande étaient visiblement flabergastés par l’énergie du public, et chaque morceau ne faisait que nous faire bouger encore plus. Que ce soit avec la violente Rain, la magnifique Dying In Your Arms, la passionnée The Deceived ou l’inoubliable A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation (accompagnée par Scott Kennedy de Bleed From Within), chacun a trouvé son moment fort du spectacle. Mention spéciale au solo de batterie d’Alex Bent, pendant qu’une immense structure gonflable représentant la pochette de l’album se déployait derrière lui, à la surprise générale. Un show magistral, terminé par un rappel avec In Waves. 10/10

TRIVIUM

Enfin, l’énergie était toujours à son comble lorsque Bullet For My Valentine a pris d’assaut la scène pour interpréter leur album mythique The Poison. Ça bougeait autant sur le parterre que dans les estrades. Le son était fort et précis, et le pit complètement déchaîné. Si tous les fans du groupe britannique s’entendent sur une chose, c’est que leur musique déménage solide. Matt et Jamie livrent toujours autant côté voix, et ils semblaient eux aussi avoir beaucoup de plaisir sur scène. Après The Poison, ils ont terminé le show en beauté avec Knives et Waking the Demon. 8/10

Un énorme merci à Evenko et Heavy MTL de nous avoir permis de vivre cette tournée au Québec. Ce fut une soirée mémorable, et je suis certain que tout le monde est sorti de la Place Bell avec un immense sourire.

It was in a packed and fully charged Place Bell in Laval that one of the most popular and anticipated tours of the year stopped to bring together a crowd of metalcore fans from all over the province. The Poisoned Ascendancy Tour, featuring Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, August Burns Red, and Bleed From Within, has been sold out for a long time, with tickets quickly vanishing back in September.

Sharing the venue with the Salon de la passion médiévale (Medieval Passion Fair), the atmosphere around Place Bell was electric. Between knights, musketeers, and Quebec metalheads, we can safely say it was a beautiful spring day, punctuated by cannon fire announcing the festivities. Soon, the action moved indoors as Bleed From Within kicked off the show. For Those About To Rock, We Salute You!

While many were still arriving to catch the short performance by the Scottish band from Glasgow, Scott Kennedy and his crew were visibly grateful for the warm welcome. For those unfamiliar with them, I’m sure their performance won them over. Personally, I loved the renditions of Levitate and The End of All We Know. A bit too short for my taste, but effective. 8/10

August Burns Red have played in Quebec many times, and unless I’m mistaken, this may have been their first time on such a large arena stage (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong). Having seen them several times before, I was satisfied with their performance. A surprise cover of Chop Suey by System of a Down as an opener was a great touch, and of course, classics like Composure and White Washed were enthusiastically received. Surprisingly, they didn’t play anything from their latest album Death Below. Instead, they chose three songs from Guardians and two standalone singles (Vengeance and Exhumed). 7/10

Now on to the main course: the full live performance of Trivium’s Ascendancy. It was simply perfect. Matt Heafy and his band were visibly blown away by the crowd’s energy, and each track only pushed the audience to move even more. Whether it was the brutal Rain, the beautiful Dying In Your Arms, the passionate The Deceived, or the unforgettable A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation (joined by Scott Kennedy of Bleed From Within), everyone had their personal highlight. Special mention to Alex Bent’s drum solo, while a massive inflatable structure representing the album cover unfolded behind him to everyone’s surprise. A spectacular show, closed out with an encore of In Waves. 10/10

Finally, the energy was still at its peak when Bullet For My Valentine stormed the stage to perform their legendary album The Poison. The crowd was going wild on the floor and in the stands. The sound was loud and clear, and the pit was completely insane. If there’s one thing all fans of the British band agree on, it’s that their music truly hits hard. Matt and Padge still deliver solid vocals and seemed to be having a lot of fun on stage. After The Poison, they wrapped up the night in style with Knives and Waking the Demon. 8/10

A huge thank you to Evenko and Heavy MTL for bringing this tour to Quebec. It was a memorable evening, and I’m certain everyone left Place Bell with a big smile on their face.
