Spectacle: Le 4 mars 2008 au Capitole de Québec

C’est un Capitole à demi pleine qui attendait le groupe The Ending hier soir, dans la capitale. Malgré la présence du guitariste Sergio Galli, anciennement de Platinum Blonde, la foule présente n’a pas beaucoup manifesté à la prestation du groupe. Il faut dire que la musique offerte en première partie du groupe principal n’était pas du tout représentative de ce qui allait suivre. Les spectateurs ont applaudi de façon « respectueuse » le band et ont ensuite attendu leur idole. De longues minutes…
C’est après une interminable intermission que le guitariste aux verres fumés est entré en scène. La foule, un peu plus nombreuse et plus agitée que lors de la première prestation, offre un chaleureux accueil à Ace Frehley et ses musiciens, qui enchaîneront les pièces provenant parfois de la carrière solo de Frehley ou tirées de l’excellent répertoire de la formation KISS. Des pièces comme Shot Full of Rock, Trouble Walkin’ et Strange Ways font place à une très courte interruption dans l’obscurité, dont Ace ressortira avec sa Gibson custom garnie de lumières rappelant les rues de New York en pleine nuit. En entendant New York Groove, on se rend compte à quel point les gens présents espéraient revivre les belles années de Space Ace avec la formation KISS en venant voir ce spectacle. Ace n’a évidemment pas manqué d’inviter la foule à chanter avec lui les paroles de Quebec Groove.
Ace Frehley n’a pas perdu sa dextérité à la guitare, et le talent des autres musiciens était à la hauteur pour l’accompagner en spectacle. Malheureusement, le talent d’Ace à la guitare dépasse de beaucoup ses capacités à chanter. Ce sera donc au batteur que reviendra la responsabilité de chanter pour laisser le guitariste se concentrer sur ses solos.
ACE FREHLEY
C’est la pièce Deuce qui a débuté le rappel de ce spectacle de qualité qui aura satisfait la foule présente. Le son et les effets visuels étaient tout à fait en harmonie avec la soirée, qui en valait le déplacement, et les spectateurs n’ont pas manqué de souligner à leur idole qu’ils étaient heureux qu’il ait choisi de passer par leur ville durant sa tournée. After an endless intermission, the guitarist with the dark glasses finally took the stage. The crowd, slightly larger and more animated than during the first act, gave a warm welcome to Ace Frehley and his musicians, who went on to perform songs drawn from both Frehley’s solo career and the excellent repertoire of KISS. Tracks like Shot Full of Rock, Trouble Walkin’, and Strange Ways led to a brief pause in darkness, after which Ace returned with his custom Gibson guitar adorned with lights reminiscent of New York’s streets at night. When New York Groove started, it became clear just how much the audience was hoping to relive the glory days of Space Ace with KISS by attending this show. Ace didn’t miss the chance to invite the crowd to sing along with him on Quebec Groove.
Ace Frehley hasn’t lost his guitar dexterity, and the talent of the other musicians was more than enough to support him live. Unfortunately, Ace’s guitar skills far outshine his vocal abilities. It was therefore up to the drummer to take over vocal duties, allowing the guitarist to focus on his solos.
The encore began with Deuce, marking the start of a high-quality performance that left the crowd satisfied. The sound and visual effects were perfectly in harmony with the evening, making the show well worth the trip. The spectators didn’t fail to show their idol how happy they were that he chose to stop by their city on this tour. Waiting for his return…
